為小朋友選對水果
小朋友胃容量比大人少,加上不時蹦蹦跳跳,體力消耗量大,餐與餐之間很容易肚餓,怎樣安排合適的小吃?水果是個很好的選擇,哪款水果最適合自己的小朋友?最簡單的方法是留意水果的寒熱平屬性,以配合小朋友的體質。小孩體質大致分為三類:肺脾氣虛型、腸胃濕熱型及痰熱蘊肺型,肺脾氣虛型適合進食平性水果,腸胃濕熱及痰熱蘊肺型則適合食用偏涼性的水果。
當造水果最好新鮮吃,可以直接吃、做沙律或簡單菜式,例如用牛油果製成抹醬配餅乾食用;沒有加調味的風乾果乾亦可以,但不建議吃罐頭水果,因為經糖水浸泡含有大量糖份。
肺脾氣虛型特徵:面色偏白、氣短、聲音弱小、沒精打采、多汗、食慾差、腹部脹滿、大便質軟或稀爛、排便不暢甚至便秘
適合平性水果:蘋果、木瓜、葡萄、菠蘿、牛油果、無花果
腸胃濕熱型特徵:怕熱、易流汗、易口乾、有口氣、容易皮膚敏感甚至濕疹、睡多久還是不夠精神、小便量少偏黃、大便稀爛且臭
或
痰熱蘊肺型特徵:容易流鼻血、時有咳嗽、痰多色黃、容易口乾、睡不安寧、小便量少色黃、大便偏乾、多便秘
適合偏涼水果:西瓜、蜜瓜、梨子、香蕉、火龍果、椰青
Choosing the right fruits for children
Children have less stomach capacity than adults. Coupled with bouncing from time to time where they consume a lot of energy, so they become hungry easily between meals. What are suitable snacks for children? Fruit is a good choice. Which fruit is best for your children? The easiest way is to pay attention to the nature(cold/hot/mid) of the fruit to match the body condition of the children. Body condition of children can be divided into three categories: lung and spleen qi deficiency body type, damp heat in the stomach and intestines type and phlegm heat accumulation in the lungs type. Those with lung and spleen qi deficiency body type should eat fruit that are mild in nature. Those with damp heat in the stomach and intestines type or phlegm heat accumulation in the lungs type should eat cool natured food.
It is better to eat fresh seasonal fruit. You can eat them directly, make salads or simple dishes. For example, using avocado to make a spread and serving with biscuits or dried fruits without seasoning are also acceptable, but it is not recommended to eat canned fruits because they have been soaked in sugar water.
Characteristic of lung and spleen qi deficiency body type: pale complexion, shortness of breath, vocal weakness, fatigue, excessive sweating, poor appetite, abdominal fullness and bloating and loose stool, difficulty passing stool or even constipation
Should consume fruits that are mild in nature: apple, papaya, grape, pineapple, avocado, fig
Characteristic of damp heat in the stomach and intestines type: aversion to heat, prone to sweating, prone to dry mouth, odor, prone to skin allergy or even eczema, feel tired despite sleeping adequately, yellowish urine with low volume, loose and stinky stool

Characteristic of phlegm heat accumulation in the lungs type:prone to nose bleeds, cough, yellowish phlegm, prone to dry mouth, poor sleep quality, yellowish urine with low volume, dry stool, frequent constipation
Should consume fruits that cool in nature: watermelon, honeydew, pear, banana ,dragon fruit and young coconut.

小孩不長肉要健脾
小朋友沒有胃口吃飯,又或者吃飯但不長肉都教不少父母擔心,中醫理論認為小孩「脾常不足」,因為小孩的脾胃功能並未發育健全,又或飲食不節損傷脾胃功能,以致未能將食物的營養充分轉化和吸收,以致肺脾氣虛,便出現怎樣吃都不長肉的情況,伴隨症狀為面部浮腫、面色偏白、說話沒力氣、沒精打采、多汗、容易感冒、腹部經常脹滿、大便質軟或稀爛。
想改善不長肉的情況,便要從改善脾胃功能著手,在飲食上多加留意,避免進食生冷食物和屬性偏寒涼的食物(更加損傷脾胃),亦不宜進食補品或甜食(身體根本不吸收);飲食宜清淡,適量進食粗糧例如小米、番薯、薯仔等食物;作息有規律,定時吃飯,進食不宜過飽;每日飲用紅米、白米及薏米煲的米水,強化脾胃功能;做適量帶氧運動,養好脾胃更能強身防病。
簡易健脾胃米水
材料:紅米2湯匙、白米半湯匙、生薏米半湯匙
做法:將材料洗淨,鍋內加入約800-1000毫升水,加入材料,以武火煮滾後調文火煮20-30分鐘。
*米水容易變壞,建議每天煲好,一天飲完,不要過夜。
**一歲以上已可飲用,最初可由每天飲一小杯約60毫升開始。
米水可以自己煲,亦可以購買即沖米水沖泡或紙包米水即開即飲。

Strengthen the spleen to promote growth in children
Children with poor appetite or those with slower growth can be worrisome. The theory of Chinese medicine state that children tend to have "spleen and stomach deficiency" because the child's spleen and stomach functions are not fully developed. Poor eating habits can also harm the spleen and stomach. The nutrients of ingredients can not be fully absorbed and converted, leading to lung, spleen and qi deficiency and slower growth. Usual accompanying symptoms include bloated face, pale complexion, vocal weakness, fatigue, excessive sweating, prone to colds/flus, abdominal fullness and bloating and loose stool.
To improve the situation of slower growth, you should start with improving the functions of the spleen and stomach. Pay more attention to the child's diet. Avoid eating cold/raw food and cold and cool natured ingredients (as they cause more damage to the spleen and stomach). It is also inappropriate to eat tonic foods or sweet foods (the body does not absorb it at all). Diet should be light with regular rest and meal times. Do not overeat. Daily rice water that is made with red rice, white rice and coix seeds can strengthen the spleen and stomach. Doing an appropriate amount of aerobic exercise can also strengthen the body to prevent diseases.
Simple healthy rice water
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons red rice, half tablespoon of white rice, half tablespoon of coix seeds
Preparation: Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Combine all ingredients with 800-1000ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
*Rice water should be made fresh daily and should not be stored overnight as it may spoil easily.
**It is suitable for children 1 year old or above. Start by having 60ml of rice water per day.
You can boil rice water yourself or purchase rice water powder to brew or paper pack rice water to drink.
