在中國關閉美國駐成都領事館一年後，位於成都的中國西南美國商會30日通知會員說，依據中國的法律與規定，他們必須停止運作，並且「不再以中國西南美國商會的名義從事任何活動 」。外媒指出，中國民政部顯然正在執行一項規定，那就是要求各國在中國只能維持一個正式的商會，不過停止運作確切原因並未對外說明。
