再度捐贈疫苗給台灣

立陶宛政府近日宣布再向台灣捐贈 235,900 劑疫苗，總理Ingrida Simonyte說：“全球疫苗公平分配和團結對於對抗 COVID-19 至關重要”。

真心感謝立陶宛政府再度捐贈疫苗給台灣，也感謝立陶宛政府堅持與台灣深化交往的決心，無論面對疫情或者威權的挑戰，讓我們兩國一起攜手面對，守護自由。

We'd like to give massive thanks to #Lithuania for their announcement of an additional donation of 235,900 vaccines to #Taiwan. As Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė put it, "Global vaccines equity and solidarity is crucial in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic."

We'd also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the country for its determination in strengthening ties with Taiwan despite the threats it has faced from authoritarian powers. Shoulder to shoulder we are #StrongerTogether in the fight to preserve our freedoms.

中國威權主義正在擴大影響，民主國家必須團結

外交部吳部長接受 #奧地利標準報 視訊專訪，爭取歐洲民眾支持！部長說台灣與其他民主國家共享價值，但同時受到威權國家的複合式威脅及假訊息攻擊。他也談到立陶宛近期因將設立「台灣代表處」而面臨來自中國等國家的混合壓力， #歐盟及北約應採取更具體措施來聲援內部成員國，展現民主陣營不受威權脅迫的立場。

吳部長說，近期許多國家都強調兩岸和平與穩定的必要性，美國更是台灣的重要夥伴，對台灣政策具有一致性。面對中國越來越頻繁的文攻武嚇，台灣不會屈服，#我們理解退讓不會帶來和平，只有堅實的自我防衛與堅定的信念，才能捍衛國土安全。

In a recent interview with DER STANDARD , MOFA Minister Joseph Wu stated that as well as sharing #CommonValues, #Taiwan and #EU countries face the common threat of hybrid warfare and disinformation from authoritarian regimes. He also touched on the retaliatory trade measures taken against #Lithuania by China for allowing the establishment of a Taiwanese representative office in the country and called on the EU to be more forthright in supporting its member nations. Taiwan is garnering more and more international support from democratic countries, such as #Japan, the #US and #Australia.

Minister Wu also expressed that US is an important partner to Taiwan, despite the attempts in Chinese media to undermine Taiwanese trust with comparisons to Afghanistan. He characterized China’s increasingly aggressive behavior in its foreign policy an attempt to paper over internal pressures at home, particularly in #Xinjiang, #Tibet and #HongKong. Taiwan will not succumb to pressure from China and it is clear that any concessions made will not bring peace. Taiwan will safeguard its own security by ensuring we can defend ourselves.

#Taiwan and #Lithuania are #LikeMinded partners that share the values of #freedom, #democracy and respect for #HumanRights and #RuleOfLaw. MOFA has been closely following the PRC’s decision to halt new approvals for Lithuanian food import permits in the wake of the latter’s decision to allow the establishment of a Taiwanese Representative Office in the country.

MOFA strongly opposes the use of economic and trade sanctions that impact people’s livelihood as a retaliatory tool. Taiwan’s determination to strengthen ties with #Lithuania and other #BalticStates will not change amid the continued attempts by the PRC’s authoritarian regime to bully and intimidate, and we’ll continue to work with like-minded democracies to create resilient global supply chains. We hope to engage in further trade and investment with Lithuania across a range of fields, including technology, education and culture.

【BABI/你是豬】將在11月20日，於全台灣戲院正式上映! 並在11月6及7號在《金馬影展》世界首映。

【BABI/你是豬】由真人真事改編, 這起大型的校園種族暴動事件，發生在2000年馬來西亞南方小鎮的一所學校裡。

當時的馬來西亞處在一黨獨大，爛權腐敗，媒體被嚴格控管及消息封鎖的階段。因此這起事件在當時已被相關單位“和諧”，在馬來西亞幾乎沒有人知道。

我想把這部電影拍出來，目的除了要揭露事實的真相，也要藉此提醒馬來西亞人種族之間必須更團結，互助，交流，才不會一直被政治人物利用，以操弄種族情緒而達到政治目的。不然就會發生更多類似的悲劇。。。

“BABI”在馬來語裡面是“豬”的意思。在一般人眼裡，“豬”就只是一個動物的名稱。但在穆斯林的眼裡，豬是不潔的動物，只要在任何媒體上或言論上提到“豬”這個字眼，等同犯了大忌，會引起很大的爭議。而這部電影就是建立在“豬”這個字眼所引發的一系列連鎖效應，最後造成的悲劇。

【BABI/你是豬】在馬來西亞是一部禁片，沒辦法找到投資，因此只用了非常低的成本來拍攝，過程非常艱難和痛苦。但慶幸的是，最後我們不但在重重壓力下完成了拍攝，甚至還受到了各國影展的青睞，包括【德國柏林電影節】，【泰國國際電影節】以及【金馬影展】，有這樣的成績讓我們都感到非常欣慰。

感謝【金馬影展】的評審對【BABI/你是豬】的肯定，希望未來能讓更多人知道，並看得到這一部電影。

我們堅決反對種族政策，反對政府控制媒體及各種官官相護的行為。在此祝願我的國家馬來西亞未來能夠更好，各族團結共榮，一起譴責種族主義和一切歧視的行為。

我們11月20號不見不散!

‘Babi’ will be available in all Taiwan cinemas on November 20 onwards! The film is also scheduled to debut internationally at the ‘Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival’ on the 6 and 7 of November 2020.

‘BABI’ is a film which is based on an actual real-life event, the movie sheds light on a massive school racial riot, the incident took place in year 2000 in a small town somewhere Southern in Malaysia.

During that time Malaysia was still under the authoritarian rule of one-dominant party, abuse of power and corruption were frequent, media and news were being stringently controlled or filtered. Thus, the incident was being ‘compromised’ by relevant authority, the case was unknown to most of the Malaysians.

I want to disclose the story though art and filming but most importantly sending a message to all Malaysians that we must be more unified disregard of our ethnicity and race. In short, we shall always lend a helping hand to each other and communicate with our hearts and souls therefore we won’t be exploited by politicians who incite racial sentiment to reach their end goal. Otherwise, we will only be trapped in this tragic never-ending cycle…

‘BABI’ in Malay means ‘PIG’. In someone’s eyes, ‘BABI’ is purely just a name for an animal but in Muslim’s eyes, pig resembles unholiness, a word which would radiate sin even mutter from one’s mouth, a taboo word which would spark controversy on any given media or comment section. Hence, this movie is built upon how the word ‘BABI’ triggered a chain reaction which ultimately resulted a series of misfortunes.

‘BABI’ is not passed for screening in Malaysia, a banned film. Due to this reason, the budget for this movie was very limited, I have had only a little of resources to finish this project, the process was arduous and agonizing. Luckily, we have not only completed the film under such immense pressure but being invited to Berlin International Film Festival, International Thai Film Festival and Golden Horse Film Festival as well, I’m relief that our labour and passion bore fruit right in the very end.

I want to thank the judging panel for all the recognition. I hope that in the future more people would know about the film and able to watch it.

We stand firm against any race policy and structural racism, we strongly oppose nepotism and government controlled media. I wish my home country Malaysia, to be ever united against racial policy and has a brighter future ahead.

I would like to thank Taiwan for welcoming all different kind of voices and art, thank you Taiwan. Lastly, shout-out to the ‘Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival’, ‘Golden Horse Awards’ and the film’s distributor ‘CPT Entertainment’ for their acknowledgment.

Is TAIWAN civilised? 台灣是不是個文明國家？

Taiwan may not be the richest country in the world, but it is not poor. it may not be the most orderly country in the world, but it is not authoritarian. Taiwan sits in a sweet spot for now. It has been an authoritarian regime and it has seen dark days, but for now it is safe orderly and free. This is something not many countries in the world can say.

台灣是不是一個文明國家？
台灣不是全世界最有錢的國家，但台灣也不窮。
台灣不是世界最極權主義的國家，但台灣有秩序也擁有自由。
台灣自由、安全且有秩序，世界上沒有很多國家可以說同時擁有這三樣東西。

致辭全文：

Ladies and gentlemen, good evening, I am honored to have the opportunity to share some thoughts with all of you here. My name is Freddy Lim, a parliamentarian from Taiwan, and am affiliated with the New Power Party, which is only one year old. The NPP received a lot of support from young people in Taiwan, which made us the third largest party in the Taiwanese parliament, and a new force in Taiwanese politics. I would like to express our voices to strengthen our mutual friendship, with the hope that you may continue to be Taiwan’s strong partners, offer us your support for our participation in international organizations to make our own contribution to the world.

Despite being a country that still has a hard time joining the UN,Taiwan is, in fact, a sovereign state with territories, people, elected government, and president. Last Friday, we had our third rotation of power, showing that Taiwan’s democracy is both stable and reliable.
Taiwan has a mature public health and national health insurance system, an outstanding biotech industry, as well as rich experiences in researching and developing medicines and vaccines. We believe that, through multilateral medical cooperation, participating in the global epidemic control and becoming an official member of the WHO, we will absolutely contribute in the global fight against diseases.

The complicated history of Taiwan surfaced with the rare mention of UN Resolution 2758 in the WHA invitation to Taiwan. After World War II, the Chiang Kai-shek regime who had nowhere to go after losing the Chinese Civil War was sent to Taiwan by the Allies, where it started a prolonged authoritarian rule. Along with the regime, the international community also threw the “one China” problem to Taiwan. In 1971, the UN passed resolution 2758 to expel the Chiang Kai-shek regime occupied the seat for China. However, Chiang’s regime was not only unrepresentative of China, it did not represent the people of Taiwan either. After decades of resistance by the people, Taiwan has finally become a young democracy. Now that the Taiwanese people are extending their efforts to contribute to and participate in different aspects in the world, we sincerely hope that Taiwan would engage in more positive and respectable exchanges with the world as a normal country, to fulfill its obligations as a global citizen.

Like all of you, we firmly stands behind the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, and continuously work for these values. I believe that, based on our shared values, Taiwan would absolutely become a reliable and friendly partner with supports from all the nations. I would like to sincerely thank you for being good friends of the Taiwanese people, and sincerely hope that you would continue to support our international participation. Let’s stay closer to work for a better world.
