TIP #2 - APPAREL
rain - humid and warm - wind - strong rain - dark and mist - rain and mist. It was scenario of weather condition during UTGK100.
Mandatory equipment list was very strict and my UD vest was very blow up. However I still add "no brand LIGHT JACKET" which is great for running in not so cold weather but give me enough comfort even during strong wind. It is very compact and I could keep it ready in my back pocket of Formosa Trail jersey.
Mandatory included waterproof jacket, inner warm layer (exclude cotton - very good advice) and gloves. Gloves may be very useful, but I like feel the dirt. :) (for races as UTMB need waterproof gloves and trousers)
BUFF
I race only with buff on head for many reasons.
SHORTS
Compressport Taiwan Trail running short is best option for long races. Reduce chafing* and do not feel wet.
SHOES + gaiters
Altra Olympus were pretty good, include muddy sections. Just insole little folded during steep downhill. Gaiters need. Socks and spare socks (type which you used to, preferable wool or synthetic, never cotton)
*ANTICHAFING
Somebody may know this issue of chafing. Past two years I use Gurney Goo (night before race and morning again on exposes parts, include feet)
we have few tubes in TBR eshop: http://www.shop.taiwanbeastrunners.com/product/gurney-goo/
ANOTHER
Naked Belt (this time mainly for poles)
BIB belt (everyone in The Beast Trail will get one)
