【2020 International Education Week: Study USA workshop】
Let’s celebrate the 2020 International Education Week together globally, as education is key to self-improvement and world change! Instead of defeating us, the COVID-19 pandemic made us stronger and compelled us to approach learning with more creativity.
Today a group of 40 advisors from Taiwan high schools and universities gathered in AIT Taipei for a Study USA workshop. AIT Director Brent Christensen offered opening remarks that highlighted the importance of study abroad and the incomparable value of U.S. education. Public Diplomacy and Consular officers, along with EducationUSA staff gave some background on study trends and visa policy, while encouraging further collaboration with the advisers as they encourage their students to study in the United States. In this workshop, current students also shared their experience studying in the States.
AIT wants to thank all teachers and school counselors from all school sectors for their important role in helping youth pursue their life dreams! #2020國際教育週 #我在美國很好Chill #IEW2020 #EducationUSATaiwan #studyabroad #EducationUSA #EdUSA #InternationalEducationWeek

The campers will learn STEM English, Minecraft programming, Artificial Intelligence and women’s leadership. In his opening remarks, AIT Director Brent Christensen mentioned “shared values form the foundation of the U.S.-Taiwan partnership. Among those shared values are our dedication to academic freedom and the belief that persons of all genders should have equal access to professional and educational opportunities. Additionally, the United States and Taiwan believe that our democratic values are best served by informed and robust civic participation. We hope that this program will advance these shared values.”
On the first day, in addition to STEM English and coding classes, three encouraging mentors -- Dr. Shiu, Wen-wei, the Director of the Digital Opportunity Center in Yilan and Hualien, Ms. Alice Chang, Founder of MamiLove and My83, and Ms. Sayun Chang, a Musician -- explained to the campers their backgrounds, careers, and passions. 【Inside Taiwan’s Response to COVID-19】
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Taiwan has emerged as a success story in the global battle against COVID-19, having had fewer than 500 cases and only six deaths among its roughly 23 million residents as of April 24, 2020.
It has been credited with taking early action to prevent the spread of the coronavirus as it emerged and for avoiding the lockdown measures many other countries implemented.
Taiwan’s Vice President Chen Chien-jen received a Doctor of Science degree in epidemiology and human genetics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 1982. On Friday, April 24, Vice President Chen joined Dean Ellen J. MacKenzie for a conversation about Taiwan’s early and effective response to the coronavirus. They discussed the specific measures Taiwan took to control the spread of the virus and how Vice President Chen’s public health training played a role.
Their conversation was preceded by brief remarks from Brent Christensen, director of the American Institute in Taiwan.
