7 years ago, on the stage of the World Harmonica Festival, I have accumulatively obtained all championship titles as soloist in every existing international harmonica festival by that time.
While it marked the end of my journey as a contestant in the harmonica world, I have bear the responsibility of carrying and fostering the development of the harmonica culture.
I remember it was a conversation between me and my dad after attending another harmonica festival few years ago. He wondered, ‘is it possible to create a harmonica event in the size of the International Chopin Piano Competition?’
A competition where the winning contestants will be performing a repertoire of 1.5 hours after 4 rounds of selection. A competition with award money that could provide even for a professional harmonica players’ living. A competition that will truly elevate an amateur harmonica player to having a professional career.
And as always, as long as we dream, nothing is impossible.
With the collective endeavour of a team of insanely driven and organised people from the Hong Kong Harmonica Association and Ginger Muse, in 2022, the best harmonica players in the world will gather on the stage of the most prestigious classical stage in Hong Kong and redefine the possiblity of the instrument.
Two years to go, I can’t wait to meet you all in this extravaganza in harmonica history! Especially the ‘you’ that has transformed after two years!
