【簽署一中承諾書 門都沒有】

對於香港政府單方面背離2011年雙方換文內容，擅加不合理的政治條件，自2018年7月起，要求我派駐香港人員簽署「一中承諾書」作為發給簽證的條件，目的在於逼使我方承認中國對台灣的主權，對此，外交部吳部長表示，絕不接受。

台灣無法接受港府單方面擅加矮化國格的政治條件，背棄互利互惠的承諾，影響台港關係，我方表達高度遺憾及譴責。更呼籲全球支持民主自由的國家，持續關心並支持香港情勢，而台灣也會堅守民主陣營，捍衛民主、自由、人權的普世價值，持續關心香港情勢，堅定支持香港人民對自由民主的殷切期待，絕不向國際霸凌及無理要求低頭！

The moves to try and force Taiwanese officials to sign letters of commitment to one China and accept Beijing’s sovereignty over Taiwan are in violation of the 2011 agreement and are not acceptable!

As President Tsai Ing-wen stated in her response, #Taiwan will not give in to pressure and China should avoid any undue strain on Taiwan-Hong Kong relations or tension in cross-Strait ties. Taiwan will continue to observe the situation in #HongKong and support the people there in their struggle for #democracy and #freedom, including the continuation of humanitarian aid and other initiatives.

Countries that uphold the values of freedom and democracy around the world must look to Hong Kong and support the people there in their eager pursuit of these same values.

#紐時重磅社論 #通篇台灣主體 #點名張忠謀 #最重要的地方 Sharma是摩根史坦利投資公司首席全球戰略長，這篇文章在外電中很少見。不是談政治角力，而是通篇以台灣為主體，介紹台灣如何起飛繁榮。他介紹政府與關鍵科技企業、關鍵人物發展，其中我喜歡他寫的這段： "As of now, any country looking to dominate the digital future has to buy these superfast, ultrathin chips from either Taiwan or South Korea. And Taiwan has the edge in both technology and market power. It is a small island of just 24 million people, but it is at the center of the battle for global technological supremacy. Pound for pound, it is the most important place in the world. As the Cold War between China and the United States intensifies, that importance will only continue to grow"

#譯：現在，任何一個像要在數字化未來佔有一席之地的國家，都必須要從台灣或韓國購買超高速、超輕薄的晶片。但台灣在科技技術與市場兩方面，都更有優勢。這是一個只有2,400萬人的小島，它卻在全球科技強權爭霸場的正中心。說真要說，台灣是現在世界上最重要的地方，而當中美冷戰不斷激化，這重要性還持續增長中。

"Pound for pound" 這概念有點繞，最先是出現在拳擊領域，p4p冠軍是指 #最有能力戰勝其他級別的拳手。放在這篇社論上來看，有點介於「真正意義上來說」、「若論真正價值」；如果是我翻譯標題，為了閱讀通順，我會說〈真正來說，台灣是世界上最重要的地方〉。

這篇文章把早期政府的科技政策，台灣晶片對全球供應鏈的位置，張忠謀先生的企業，以及為何台灣是科技界的「瑞士」講得很詳細，最後這一段他寫："Historically, the importance of Taiwan was calculated in geopolitical terms. A small democracy thriving in the shadow of a Communist giant stirred sympathy and support in Washington. Now, as a byproduct of its successful economic model, Taiwan has become a critical link in the global tech supply chain, adding economic weight to the geopolitical calculations. And that weight is likely to increase as the battle for global tech supremacy heats up."

歷史上來說，台灣重要與否，是地緣政治的利益來衡量的。一個小的民主國家，在被共產主義巨人的陰影籠罩下努力，這激起了華盛頓的支持和同情。但是現在，台灣和全世界供應形成了關鍵連結，在地緣政治之外，有了自己的經濟份量。當全球科技強權角力加劇，這權重只會更為重要。

There is a lot of information that we could not fit in a 10 min video, and some parts could be more clearly presented. For example, pauses are entirely natural when one searches for content.
