Today is the first day of our 2-step move back to Phase 3 (Heightened Alert), with restrictions eased and some activities resumed. It is also 端午节, the Dragon Boat Festival or Dumpling Festival. The dragon boat races and glutinous rice dumplings are cultural practices that commemorate the life of historical Chinese patriot Qu Yuan. We might not have our big races this year, but we can still enjoy rice dumplings at home with friends and family.
Whether you made your own bak chang at home, or bought some to support your favourite hawker, stay safe and keep watching out for one another, even as we head out into the “new normal”. Things are not quite the same yet, but united, we are heading in the right direction. – LHL
