ZERO DISCRIMINATION DAY
Today is #ZeroDiscriminationDay and the start of Women’s Month! Everyone has the right to live with respect and dignity with ZERO DISCRIMINATION. The theme of this year’s Day is the fight against discrimination faced by women and girls, and the organization aims to raise awareness, mobilize action, and promote equality.
Gender discrimination has been continuing to threaten the hard work & progress for Human Rights. On this day, let us remember that AIDS remains the biggest killer of women aged 15-49 years. To end AIDS by 2030, we must collectively work together and end gender based violence inequality, insecurity and ensure that women and girls have equal access to education, health and employment.
Governments must promote inclusive social and economic growth. They must eliminate discriminatory laws, policies and practices in order to ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities.
But we can all play our part by calling out discrimination where we see it, by setting an example or by advocating to change the law. We all have a role to play in ending discrimination and so reducing inequalities.
Ending inequality requires transformative change. Greater efforts are needed to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger and there is a need to invest more in health, education, social protection and decent jobs.
The Zero Discrimination Day join us raising awareness about the inequalities that prevent people from living a full and productive life and demanding that governments fulfil their commitments and obligations to end all forms of discrimination.

🏛 Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s time on the Court was often characterized as a pitched battle between the principles of equality and individual liberty. Conservative majorities have tended to elevate individual autonomy rights over equal treatment and equal opportunity in our politics, our workplaces, and our schools. The liberal bloc, by contrast, has tended to oppose this subversion of equality to liberty, and pushed to recuperate equality as the primary value guiding constitutional law.
🎭 Justice Ginsburg was in a camp of her own. She long grasped that these two great principles of American democracy are not at odds, but rather integral to each other. She recognized that equal opportunity is vital to self-determination, and that personal liberty is secure only insofar as society respects each of us as equals. In short, she did not fall victim to the false dichotomy of equality and liberty, but worked to advance equal liberty under law.
🗞 In case after case, this Court’s conservative majority bloc has confused its own viewpoint-based objections to equal treatment and nondiscrimination with actual discrimination against conservative viewpoints. As a formidable and indelible civil-rights advocate, Ginsburg knew better.

Did you know that this month marks 30 years since the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? Since its passage in 1990, this landmark legislation has helped increase access and opportunity for people with disabilities in workplaces and communities. This month, we celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. Equal protection under the law and equal opportunities in society and workplaces are among the #sharedvalues that bind the United States and Taiwan as member of the global #FamilyofDemocracies #ADA30 #ThanksToTheADA

On May 17, 2019, Taiwan became the first country in Asia to make gay marriage legal! What started as a rainy turned into a beautiful sunny day just after the votes to legalize marriage for all were made, letting the rainbows worn by those at the support rally become amplified by real rainbows in the sky.
Taiwan has always been a progressive nation, and, yesterday, it became the first country in Asia to have a gay marriage law; making it an even more unique treasure here in Asia.
I was outside the building at the support rally, and the atmosphere there was so special and unique that I just had to share it with the world.
I want to offer my congratulations to all those who
have endured such a difficult journey.
I also want to share my story with you.
Two years ago, Taiwan’s Constitutional Court ruled that marriage was a right for all. Due to legal processes in Taiwan, however, there was a two year waiting period during which legislators had the opportunity to alter the law, otherwise the change would automatically go into effect.
The Legislative Yuan, the legislative branch of the government, held a hearing to vote on the proposed bills regarding same-sex marriage.
Hi, I’m Brian. A foreigner from America (the US) who has lived in Taipei, Taiwan for nearly 10 years and studied Mandarin Chinese for nearly 15 years. Welcome to Brian2Taiwan.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Please PLEASE share and help me show the world how special Taiwan really is~
Sorry for the mistakes in the subtitles.
I did all the shooting, editing, and captioning myself, so some mistakes, inevitably, got by me. Thanks.
