Everyone loves perfectly roasted meat. We were pleasantly surprised by Char Siu Lang at Jalan Bukit Merah, which serves pretty good charcoal roasted roasted meat. The young owner Ivan previously was doing insurance, then decided to come out and do F&B, so he took 2 years to learn and master roasting.
The char siew here is made with pork belly cut, charcoal smoked and caramelised to give it a deep colour and intense flavour. You can choose how fatty you want your char siew to be. Perfectly good on its own, I popped piece after piece before drizzling the char siew sauce over (which was supposed to be used for dipping) 😂.
They also serve juicy roasted chicken and sio bak too. Pair your roasted meat with their signature Hakka noodles tossed in lard and aromatic minced pork. Yums

Iekei Ramen is finally eating! I visited "Sugitaya Chiba store" in Chiba city, Chiba prefecture. Customers came to the store one after another, and the entire store was full of energy. "Sugita-ya Chiba" is a direct line store of "Yoshimura-ya", the headquarter of the Yokohama Iekei. One of the attractions is the splendid and accurate craftsmanship, customer service and service with a spirit of service to customers. For this video, we headed down to Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh to devour 15 Bowls of Bak Kut Teh filled with MASSIVE Dragon Ribs! Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh is located at Midview City and serves pepper-heavy Bak Kut Teh with a unique twist of having Dragon Ribs (Pork Loin Ribs) as their cut of pork. Bak Kut Teh, literally translated as Meat Bone Tea, is a Singaporean dish that consists of Pork Ribs cooked in a richly spiced and flavoured broth with rice and fried dough fritters on the side. There are traditionally 2 versions, the Teochew one being lighter-coloured and pepper-forward, while the Hokkien version being darker and more herbal. Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh serves the former version with much aplomb since 1976.
I went forward with doing it bowl by bowl, completing 15 bowls in the end. The Dragon Ribs were true to the name and ginormous in size. Due to the size of the ribs, some parts were chewier and leaner than others, while the fatty parts were fork-tender and bursting with flavour. Dipped in the soy sauce plus chilli condiment, the Bak Kut Teh flavour shined tremendously. The broth was peppery and had deep and complex notes of the all the Chinese spices and herbs used in the long preparation. Surprisingly, the dough fritter was the component that really blew me away. They were ridiculously crisp, probably through a double-fry process, and soaked up all the rich Bak Kut Teh broth. I could not get enough.
They also served Traditional Chinese Tea which can be brewed on the spot. The name of this dish originally came from the fact that physical labourers in the past used to eat Bak Kut Teh while drinking Chinese Tea after a hard day’s work. Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh does not sway from this tradition and allows you to experience the full, authentic Bak Kut Teh experience.

For this episode, we headed down to Chuan Seng Claypot Kway Chap to hit a new Kway Chap Eating Record! Kway Chap is a Teochew dish that consists of “Kway”, which is flat rice sheets in a light soy broth, and sides that usually include the traditionally unwanted parts of a pig like intestines and trotters, braised in a rich dark stock. While it may look straightforward, the preparation of the intestines is labour-intensive and they are cleaned by hand to ensure that they are thoroughly disinfected.
Chuan Seng Claypot Kway Chap, located at Jalan Besar, differentiates itself by serving their Kway Chap in claypot bowls that helps to retain heat and flavour. It is family-run, with the original founder present there as the Head Chef with his son-in-law managing the restaurant.
The Chef masterfully plated almost their entire menu of sides onto the giant plate, forming a Giant Braised Intestines Platter. There were at least 3 different types of intestines, trotter, knuckle, eggs and actual wild boar meat, all doused in the rich and herbal braising liquid. I then proceeded to consume 12 bowls of Kway together with the Braised Intestines Platter. The Kway were delicious, with the thin strips of rice noodles giving a very slight bite and paired with a fragrant and flavourful soy broth. They were good enough to be eaten on their own. This restaurant offers a chilli sauce with a strong vinegar kick that perfectly matches the fatty and chewy pig’s innards. The pig’s parts were generally tender and while some were necessarily chewy, they were pleasantly so.
It was a fun challenge for me as this Kway Chup was very well done. Do not be perturbed by the initial appearance, the “icky” factor and the fact that you probably will not know which exact part of the pig you are eating once you dig in for this dish. Try each side, preferably with chilli sauce and with copious amounts of Kway, and you will be left extremely satisfied. Do check out this family-owned Kway Chap restaurant with their unique claypot concept and excellent food!
