We survived 4 days of HBL, and today is also the start of PSLE. 💪

This time round, I never set up any schedule for the girls mainly because I wasn't very ready and since it's only 10 days 说长不长，说短不短. I have so much things not settle yet so I decided to let nature take its course. 🛶 船到桥头自然直。

Day time was pretty manageable, because the girls are busy with online work and homework. I prepare their snacks earlier which I shared on my IGS, or u can swipe left to see.

I started this in May which I shared on my blog (link in bio). Starting, they do not know how to control and finish the snacks before the "school" ends. Too bad no replenish. 😝
After awhile they get a hang of it and don't bother me about snacks, hungry etc.

They only keep calling me for IT stuff (no sound, no screen, change backgrounc) which is getting on my nerves especially when I'm trying to listen to my lecturer talking. 👹

It's not easy for us parents, it's also not easy for the kids.. although it seems like they are enjoying.. but occasionally they miss their friends, the social life they have and their emotions let out channel is greatly affected. Plus the uncertainty for those who are preparing for exam.

Sometimes not having a schedule, letting ourselves to relax awhile, it's good for our mental health.

Not sure how long this "one step forward, 2 steps back" restrictions will last.. 😅 it's good to rethink by changing our mindset so we can handle this pandemic better.

As I’ve mentioned before, one of the 9 subjects I’m taking for GCSE this year is Drama. This, of course, calls for a lot of scriptwriting, performance work, designing and whatnot, but there’s only one thing left that we can do that’s both helpful and really enjoyable...watching live theatre!

Live theatre is not only an essential part of the Drama GCSE course, but it’s also one of the students’ favourite parts of the course, aside from our actual performances, of course. This time around, we went after school on Wednesday evening to watch the 25th anniversary performance of #EastisEast at The Birmingham Rep Theatre. Originally based on the film from 1996, and adapted into the 1999 film, the story follows the daily life of a Pakistani family in England in the 70s, trying to live both a traditional Pakistani lifestyle and fit into 1970s England as well. The play was directed by Iqbal Khan, an Old Edwardian - yep, he is one of the alumni of King Edward’s School as well! He is also the Associate Director for the Birmingham Repertory Theatre - amazing 👀

I must say, the entirety of the show was amazing, from start to finish - it’s no wonder why the story won the awards it has! The writing, the set design, the costume, the cast, all of it was absolutely brilliant, and made for a great night out and a highly enjoyable start to this part of the GCSE Drama course. I can’t express just how much I enjoyed the show - well done to the team!

・I don't get what the hype is all about. I thought that movie sucked.（なんであの映画がすごく話題になっているのかが分からない。僕はひどかったと思ったんだけどね）

・My job sucks. It doesn't pay well and I have to work long hours.（私の仕事は最悪です。給料は低いし、長時間働かないといけない）

英検を受けた友達が・・・
A: I just needed one more point to pass! It's so frustrating.（合格するのに1点だけ足りなかった。悔しいよ）

留学する予定だった友達が・・・
A: I was supposed to study abroad in Vancouver this year, but it got canceled because of the coronavirus.今年はバンクーバーに留学する予定だったんだけど、コロナで中止になっちゃったよ。
B: Are you serious? That sucks. Hopefully, you can go next year.（マジで？それは最悪だ。来年いけるといいね）

ハワイ旅行から帰ってきた友達が・・・
A: It was raining the whole time I was there. It was terrible.（旅行中、ずっと雨だったよ。最悪だった）
B: Wow, that sucks. I had a similar experience when I went to Thailand last year. （それはついてないね。私も去年タイに行った時、同じような経験をしたよ）

3. Suck at ~（〜が下手、〜が苦手）　2:45
・I suck at cooking. I go to the convenience store or order on Uber Eats every day.（私は料理が下手なので毎日、コンビニに行くか、Uber Eatsで注文します）

・He seriously sucks at driving. Honestly, he shouldn't be on the road. It's hazardous.（彼は運転が本当に下手だ。正直言うけど、彼は運転しない方がいいと思う。危険だよ）

・Is she really a professional singer? She sucks. She can't carry a tune. （彼女は本当にプロの歌手なの？下手だね。音痴だよ）

4. Suck it up（我慢しなさい）　4:17
・Look. I know you're exhausted, but suck it up. We have to finish this by today.（クタクタに疲れているのは分かってるけど、我慢して。今日中に終わらせないといけないので）

・My leg cramped up during the marathon, but I sucked it up and finished the race. （マラソン中に足がつりましたが、我慢して完走しました）

・Don't put off your project. Just suck it up and finish tonight.（プロジェクトを後回しにしない。つべこべ言わないで言わないで今夜中に終わらせない）

One day I saw Bibimbap on my daughter's elementary school lunch menu and wondered how they serve it. I asked her teacher and learned that they make it in one pot!

It is a great idea if you quickly want to make it in a large batch for your family 😉

One-Pot Bibimbap (Korean Mixed Rice with Meat and Vegetables in a Japanese school lunch style)

Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30min
Number of servings: 4 servings

Ingredients:
200g(7oz.) pork or beef slices (or ground meat is ok)
200g(7oz.) bean sprouts
200g(7oz.) spinach
100g(3.5oz.) carrot
1 clove grated garlic
1 tbsp. grated ginger
* 2 tbsp. soy sauce
* 2 tbsp. sugar
* 1 tbsp. Sake (white wine or you can skip it)
* 1 tbsp. chicken soup stock powder
* 1 tbsp. Miso
* 1 tsp. Gochujang (you can skip it if you think it is too hot for kids)
cooking oil
sesame oil
toasted white sesame seeds
2 eggs
800g(1.7lb.) cooked white rice

Directions:
1. Cut meat into bite-size pieces. Cut carrot into thin strips. Cut spinach into an inch pieces. Wash bean sprouts and drain well.
2. In a deep frying pan or a pot, heat 1 tbsp. of cooking oil and make scrambled eggs. Mix in rice and set aside.
3. In the same pan, bring water to a boil and parboil carrot strips, spinach, and bean sprouts. Drain well and set aside.
4. In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp. of cooking oil and heat garlic and ginger until fragrant. Then add meat and cook until no longer pink.
5. Add the vegetables. Mix the seasonings * and add into the pan. Season with salt and pepper if necessary. Finish with 1 tbsp. of sesame oil.
6. Serve the meat and vegetables on top of the rice with scrambled eggs. Garnish with toasted white sesame seeds to finish.
