Geylang Serai is once again beautifully decorated with festive lights for the annual Hari Raya light-up. Just like last year, the usual Ramadan bazaar has gone online at https://bazaar-kita.sg/. I’m glad that people are still taking safe management measures seriously while enjoying their festivals.

Hari Raya Puasa is a week away. It has been an unusual Ramadan, with families breaking fast with immediate family only and no jalan jalans to the Geylang Serai bazaar.
I held a virtual dialogue with Malay-Muslim leaders and community leaders this evening. We talked about how families are coping, as they adapt to the circuit breaker restrictions. To all who have sacrificed to keep loved ones safe during this period, take heart. We are facing this together, and our collective efforts are showing results.
We may be celebrating differently this year, but the significance of the holy month remains constant — a time of reflection, prayer, and good deeds. No pandemic can change this. May your Ramadan continue to be blessed and bright, and your family healthy. – LHL

Hari Raya Aidilfitri akan tiba kurang seminggu lagi. Ramadan kali ini sungguh luar biasa. Rakan-rakan Melayu/Islam kita, berbuka puasa dengan keluarga yang serumah sahaja. Mereka tidak dapat ke masjid atau jalan-jalan ke bazar Hari Raya di Geylang Serai.
Saya sempat beramah-mesra dengan para pemimpin Melayu/Islam melalui persidangan video petang tadi. Kami bincangkan tentang sikap positif dan daya bingkas masyarakat Melayu/Islam dalam menyesuaikan diri ekoran wabak COVID-19. Kepada semua yang berkorban untuk menjaga keselamatan keluarga serta orang-orang yang disayangi dalam jangka masa ini, anda tidak sendirian. Bersama-sama, usaha kolektif kita semakin membuahkan hasil.
Kita mungkin menyambut Hari Raya secara berbeza tahun ini, tetapi ia tidak mengubah betapa pentingnya bulan suci ini. Ia adalah masa untuk kita menilai semula diri kita dan melakukan kerja-kerja amal. Itu sesuatu yang tidak dapat dihalang oleh wabak ini. Saya harap Ramadan anda terus diberkati, dan semoga keluarga anda sihat selalu. - LHL
The Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is a highlight of the local festival calendar. Like many Singaporeans, I made my way there last week to see what’s new this year and to enjoy the Raya atmosphere. It was a Tuesday night, but still packed with people gathered for good food and company. See if you can spot yourself or friends in my photos!
This is the first time the bazaar is fully coordinated by Wisma Geylang Serai. More stalls were set aside to sell traditional goods, and all food stalls (both traditional and “hipster”) served halal food.
The bazaar runs till June 5, so if you haven’t gone down to take a look, you should! – LHL

Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2019 is here!
The past few years of Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar were attracting crowds with greatly instagrammable and colourful food, but for this year, 60% of the food stalls will sell traditional Malay dishes! Hurray to old-school folks like us!
There are approximately 500 stalls this year, focusing on mainly F&B, and lifestyle retail. #TeamTamChiak visited the bazaar on the first day and we observed that the space between stalls has greatly increased, making patronising the stalls much more enjoyable. Besides food and retail, there are also Uncle Ringo rides and claw machines.

In this video, I went to a night market in Singapore that happen every year during the Ramadan period. This bazaar sells a bunch of stuff and a lot of halal food for the Muslims in Singapore.
