奧斯卡，原來亦與香港雨傘運動拉上關係。

電影《馬丁路德金－夢想之路》（Selma）的主題曲，由Common及John Legend創作的《Glory》，贏得本屆第87屆奧斯卡最佳電影歌曲。John Legend及Common在台上獻唱時，電影《星空奇遇記》（Star Trek）男星基斯派克（Chris Pine）及《馬丁路德金－夢想之路》男主角大衛奧伊羅（David Oyelowo）在台下已忍不住感動落淚。及後Common致謝辭時更提及香港的雨傘革命，民主是由亞拉巴馬州一直走到香港，他謂:「我曾經去番Selma呢條橋去唱呢首歌，呢首歌代自由、超越種族、性取向及性別，特別係代表自由。謹以此曲獻給香港嘅朋友。」

夏慤道天橋人散卻不寂寞，電影《馬丁路德金：夢想之路》（Selma）於本屆奧斯卡憑《Glory》一曲摘下最佳原創歌曲獎，主唱者Common於致謝辭提到象徵美國有色人種爭取投票權的地標塞爾瑪（Selma），並以此連結世界各地民眾對公義的追求，包括香港追求民主的雨傘革命。佔中運動發起人戴耀廷希望該片可以鼓舞港人繼續堅持爭普選路。
《Glory》主唱者之一、饒舌歌手Common致辭時提到早前到塞爾瑪的埃德蒙佩特斯橋（Edmund Pettus）的經歷，「這條橋把夢想擁有更好明天的芝加哥南部小孩、為言論自由挺身的法國人、爭取民主的香港人連結起來。」
