NBA ย่อมาจาก National Basketball Association ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1949

แม้ในปัจจุบัน NBA จะมีทีมบาสเกตบอลถึง 30 ทีม
แต่ในช่วงเริ่มแรกนั้น NBA มีทีมบาสเกตบอลทั้งหมดเพียง 17 ทีม

แถมในช่วงเริ่มต้น NBA ก็ไม่ได้รับความนิยมมากนัก
เพราะในปี 1955 มีทีมบาสเกตบอลแข่งขันกันเพียง 8 ทีมเท่านั้น

แต่สิ่งที่ทำให้ NBA กลับมาเป็นที่นิยม และกลับมาเติบโตได้
มาจากการปรับโครงสร้างการแข่งขันขึ้นใหม่

เริ่มต้นจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงกฎกติกาการแข่งขัน

ยกตัวอย่างเช่น การเพิ่มเขตทำคะแนน 3 แต้ม
จากเดิมที่มีการทำคะแนนได้เพียง 2 แต้มต่อการชูตลง 1 ลูกเท่านั้น

Long after the Golden State Warriors were presented with their third NBA Finals trophy in the past four years on Friday night, the game operations crew at Quicken Loans Arena had a few unenviable final tasks to get through.

Because these Finals were so short, and the last game so noncompetitive, the flame-blowing machines affixed to the jumbo screen high above the court had to burn off extra fuel in their tanks before the arena and the NBA season turned over to a long, uncertain summer.

As the Warriors players and coaches celebrated in their locker room, fire sprang forth from the scoreboard toward their families and friends on the court. One last angry, empty lament from the Cavaliers and every other franchise that's tried and failed to dethrone these Warriors over the past four seasons.

"Wow, that felt like that last scene in 'Game of Thrones,'" Warriors coach Steve Kerr's wife, Margot, said, referencing the iconic battle scene in Season 7 of the hit HBO show, when the presumptive ruler of the Iron Throne, Daenerys Targaryen, flies in on her fire-breathing dragon to destroy the superior Lannister army. A great analogy, except the dragon was far more effective.

These flames, like the flames 29 other teams in the NBA hurled at Golden State this season, never really touched them.

Yes, the Cavaliers had a chance to win two of the four Finals games. But that was only due to the brilliance of LeBron James. And even then, there was never a time when the Warriors genuinely felt threatened in this series.

The Houston Rockets took them to seven games in the Western Conference finals and may have prevailed if point guard Chris Paul hadn't injured his hamstring at the end of Game 5. Of course, the Warriors might've won that series in five games if former Finals MVP Andre Iguodala hadn't missed most of it with a leg injury. And even when the Warriors faced elimination, it always felt like they should win, if they simply played up to their capabilities.

Golden State had more talent, more depth, more swagger and more experience than any team in the league -- maybe ever. That's been the case since the Warriors added two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant to a team that won an NBA-record 73 games two years ago.

"We're loaded, and I'm not afraid to say that," Steve Kerr said.

Kerr's challenge this year hasn't been harnessing that talent or figuring out what to do with it. The challenge this time came from within. The Warriors' toughest opponent this year was themselves. Could they stay motivated through the slog of the regular season? Could Kerr remind them to be grateful for the chance at history, rather than bored or resentful at the obligations of greatness?

"Probably the hardest road we have had," Warriors guard Stephen Curry said. "A lot went into this year, mentally and physically, to get to the finish line."

High-class problems, to be sure. But nothing compared to the problem Golden State has created for the rest of the league.

Allen Iverson Has Joel Embiid On His List Of The Top Five Current NBA Players

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have a big fan in former Sixers star Allen Iverson. The Answer has already claimed that Ben Simmons is playing beyond his years, and on Tuesday, he gave a ringing endorsement of fellow big Embiid.

Iverson appeared next to Stephen A. Smith on First Take on Tuesday, when Max Kellerman asked who his top five active NBA players are. Iverson had already said LeBron James was the best player in the NBA, but it was tough for him to pick the other four.

The clip starts around the two minute mark of the video. Iverson said “definitely” Kevin Durant, then went into his other three picks, including Embiid.

“You gotta say James (Harden) because he’s the MVP at this point,” Iverson continued before explaining why Russell Westbrook also makes the cut for him.

“Russ averages a triple-double this year, man,” he said. “I don’t know what you want me to say when a guy averages a triple-double back-to-back.”

Seems fair enough. But how about that fifth spot?

“I would say Embiid,” Iverson said to an immediately outraged Smith sitting next to him. Iverson said it’s hard to pick him over a player like Anthony Davis, and admitted he’s being a bit “biased,” but there are a lot of Sixers fans who will be very happy to hear that kind of praise.

“It’s a legitimate argument,” Iverson said, pointing out that it “looks like he’s been playing a long time.”

There are a lot of good NBA players left off that list, including every Golden State Warriors not named Kevin Durant. Call Iverson a homer if you’d like, but if he thinks Embiid is already there, the Sixers will be a very dangerous team for a long time in the Eastern Conference.

Another 50-point game by Allen Iverson wasn't enough for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Iverson became only the seventh player in NBA history to score at least 50 points in consecutive games, but he fouled out with 4.5 seconds left, putting Mehmet Okur on the line for the winning free throws in Utah's 103-101 victory over the 76ers on Monday night.

"I had a hot hand and Coach (Jim O'Brien) called my number," Iverson said. "That's with anybody, though. If a guy's going well, you milk it. You just keep running the same play over and over until they stop it."

Iverson followed up his 54-point game in Milwaukee with 51 this time, becoming the first Sixers player to score 50 in back-to-back games and the first Philadelphia player to accomplish the feat since Wilt Chamberlain for the Warriors in 1962.

The last NBA player to score 50 points in consecutive games was Antawn Jamison in December 2000 with the Golden State Warriors. Iverson joined Rick Barry, Elgin Baylor, Chamberlain, Bernard King, Michael Jordan and Jamison as the only players to accomplish the feat.

Iverson scored 21 in the third quarter to help the Sixers overcome a 16-point halftime deficit, only to watch the comeback fall short from the bench. After Okur hit his foul shots, a running layup attempt by Willie Green clanged off the back of the rim, and the Jazz snapped a seven-game road losing streak and a three-game skid overall.

Okur finished with 20 points and Carlos Boozer led Utah with 28 as four Jazz players finished in double figures.

After blowing their big halftime lead, the Jazz used a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter keyed by Boozer and Carlos Arroyo, who finished with 11 assists.

"We started feeling sorry for ourselves a little bit in the second half," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "But fortunately they stuck together and a couple guys made real hard, hustle plays."

Iverson hit a running layup and Kyle Korver, who had 16 points, drained his fifth 3-pointer to tie it at 101 in the final minute.

Iverson single-handedly turned around a game that, for the first half, was sloppy.

Trailing 57-41 at halftime, the Sixers scored 38 points in the third quarter using runs of 16-6 and 20-10 to erase Utah's lead in less than 12 minutes.

Iverson scored on a variety of shots, hitting 3-pointers, off-balance drives and a reverse left-handed layup that brought the crowd to its feet. He went 18-for-31 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and 11-of-17 from the line. He also had six assists.

"He puts up 50 points two nights in a row and he's still looking for us," Korver said. "A lot of guys are capable of putting up 50 points back-to-back nights, but they (think), this is my show. He wasn't like that. It's pretty amazing."

The teams combined for 30 fouls and 27 turnovers in the first 24 minutes, and the game was marred by five technical fouls, including an ugly altercation early in the third quarter.

Philadelphia's Corliss Williamson was ejected with 6:26 to play in the third after being assessed with a technical foul for grabbing Utah's Matt Harpring by the nape of his neck after the two were battling for position under the basket.

Williamson held onto Harpring for a few seconds before shoving him into the crowd. It was his second technical foul of the game.
