KEEPING POLICIES ON RACE & RELIGION UP TO DATE

We need to keep our policies on race and religion up to date, because racial and religious harmony is not just delicate, but also dynamic.

Our values and beliefs as a society shift over time, and each new generation has its own perspective on racial issues.

Meanwhile, the world around us is changing. Singapore is highly exposed to external political developments, and we are influenced by external religious trends too.

Therefore, from time to time, we must adjust our policies on race and religion. But we should adjust based on our own needs, and we should do so with caution. We have to take the time to discuss respectfully, make sure everybody understands, and build a consensus before we make any move.

😔 so many species have now extinct due to habitat loss and aggressive poaching, mainly due to human greed and abuse of power. It's disheartening. When a species is about to extinct or in danger, only then some serious actions are taken trying to save what's left. By this time, it's already too late to salvage.

Only if humans can learn how to coexist and live in harmony with all creatures, including ALL animals and nature, we can save all kinds from being harm.

What can we learn from this pandemic is to take a step back, and understand what we can do as an individual to help improve ourselves, our family, and the bigger crowd, society, country and the world we live in. How can we help the animals around us. How can we help mother nature.

If each of us can strive to learn, be kinder, help and support each other, we can lead a more harmonious life for everyone, for all creatures.

Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 posted a very thought-provoking video. They interviewed nine Singaporeans from different backgrounds about their views on race and racism here. It is well worth watching.

It is an open and frank discussion, and a timely one. With Racial Harmony Day around the corner, I hope we will examine our own behaviours and place ourselves in others’ shoes, to better appreciate how others may feel.

We cannot take racial harmony in Singapore for granted. Racial issues are always sensitive. But as these nine interviewees show, we can have honest and civil conversations and bridge understanding without being offensive, or getting defensive. It is an encouraging sign that we can build a more cohesive, yet diverse society together. – LHL

种族课题不是我们经常公开谈论的问题。由于缺乏讨论, 很多人也不太确定该如何看待这个课题。 联合早报采访了九名不同种族和年龄层的新加坡人，了解他们对种族歧视的看法。

《A Whole New World & Game of Thrones》（電影「阿拉丁」主題曲-嶄新的世界 & 影集「權力遊戲」主題曲）小提琴大提琴版本 | Violin Cover by Lin Tzu An and Cello by Wu Yo Yo of A Whole New World, OST of “Aladdin,” and Main Title from the “Game of Thrones”

我跟大提琴手登凱又來一個合作。
配合上星期阿拉丁電影的上映和權力遊戲第8季大結局，這週是主題曲週。

為了完美勾起大家的童年回憶，而且據說權力遊戲第8季大結局讓劇迷們非常失望，我跟大提琴手登凱決定再度一起合作cover，這絕對不會讓大家失望！

阿拉丁劇情背後其實有很深的意涵，其中覺得最感動的地方就是阿拉丁和茉莉公主改變了看待對方的視角，跳脫外在角色既定印象，而看到對方真實的自我，希望大家可以不要被社會價值或標籤所禁錮，可以跳脫刻板印象，做真正的自己。
「不必為了改變而改變，真心的人愛你，是因為你就是你。」（阿拉丁，2019）

這讓我想到，當初決定到街頭演出時，就是希望可以打破大家對音樂系科班學生畢業之後的就業選擇，我希望透過音樂，可以傳遞溫暖力量給大家。所以我選擇當國家音樂廳的逃犯，走下音樂廳的舞台，站在街頭和大家互動，拉近和大家的距離，拉琴給大家聽，希望大家聽到我的琴聲音樂，可以感到開心幸福感動。

這次拍攝cover遇到重重困難，凌晨開拍，但是才要拍就開始下大雨，
上週唯一一次的下雨就是我拍攝那天，所以上週來不及更新cover影片。
最後作為沒有遵守週更影片的賠罪，這句台詞送給大家，也是阿拉丁電影中的台詞：把笑容掛在臉上，自信披在身上，堅強放在心上，命運握在手上。

Here comes my weekly updated cover.

This week is the week for soundtracks : A Whole New World, OST of “Aladdin,” and Main Title from the “Game of Thrones,” both of which were officially released last week.

To perfectly represent everyone's childhood memories, and it is said that fans were disappointed to the finale of the power game season 8, I decided to cooperate again with my cello partner Wu Yo Yo, which will definitely make everyone satisfied !

I’m touched by the meaning behind Aladdin when Aladdin and Jasmine changed their perspectives, broke the stereotypes established and finally saw each other’s true inner self. May each one of you free from the stereotypes of social standards, be true to yourself and respect other’s uniqueness. ”Never change for the sake of change; those who are true will always love you for who you are” (Aladdin 2019)

This reminds me of my decision of being a busker. Instead of playing at National Concert Hall and being the best violinist, the expected career path from the society toward those majoring in music, I chose to performing as a busker, passing the healing power of music, getting closer to everyone, and sharing my music and the touching moments with everyone.

What would you do if you get Aladdin’s lamp?
I just hope ya’ll enjoy my cover.
Though I am not Genie that can make your dream come true, the only thing I can do is playing the requested song for you.

There were soooo many unexpected obstacles about the filming of this cover. It was supposed to film in the early morning, but started to rain heavily.
Due to the super heavy rain, the cover was delayed.
As for making up for not keeping the promise of updating my cover on time, here is another line I love from Aladdin “wear your smile on the face, carry your confidence on the shoulder, keep courage in your heart, and hold destiny in your hand.”

實現民主沒有捷徑。香港的命運，從來不取決於一小撮人，而是由社會上每一個人合力譜寫。

多年來，我在社區碰到一個又一個為香港默默耕耘的無名英雄。無奈，在充斥著各種渲染、互相標籤、繼而互相指的大環境下，他們只能靜靜各自打拼，孤掌難鳴。

目前關鍵所在，正是如何將他們凝聚起來，大家此唱彼和，實現彼此的共同理想。

亂局當前，我，立法會港島區1號候選人黃梓謙，不會滿足於街頭衝撞和學院論述，於是捲起衣袖，以自己的熱情、專業與學識回饋社會。

香港要翻身，我們就要爭氣。共同承擔，一起開闢新路，讓香港重見希望。

There is no shortcut to democratisation in Hong Kong. The fate of our city should never and will not be determined by a few, but by every single one of us.

Over the years, I have encountered unsung heroes from all walks of life - heroes who silently labour for our beloved Hong Kong, who are forced into silence and isolation by the strife of labelling and finger-pointing that threatens to consume our society.

The key question right now is how do we attune our voices and ideals, rephrase dissonance into harmony, and rebuild the Hong Kong of our dreams?

I, Gary Wong, LegCo No. 1 Candidate for Hong Kong Island, am not satisfied with endless clashes, theoretical debates, and ideals that stay unmaterialised. I am going to snuff our passion out, keep our abilities hidden, and bottle our knowledge up amidst the current chaos.

If Hong Kong is to rejuvenate, we cannot be complacent. Instead we need to work hard - together - to light ourselves a new path and create new hope.
