對於阿富汗我十分陌生,但對於一樣來自電影工作者的呼喊,我願意為他們發聲。

A Letter From An Afghan Film Maker to Save Afghanistan from Taliban(The original English text is below)

To All the Film Communities in The World and Who Loves Film and Cinema!
My name is Sahraa Karimi, a film director and the current general director of Afghan Film, the only stated-owned film company established in 1968.
I write to you with a broken heart and a deep hope that you can join me in protecting my beautiful people, especially filmmakers from the Taliban. In the last few weeks, the Taliban have gained control of so many provinces. They have massacred our people, they kidnapped many children, they sold girls as child brides to their men, they murdered a woman for her attire, they gauged the eyes of a woman, they tortured and murdered one of our beloved comedians, they murdered one of our historian poets, they murdered the head of culture and media for the government, they have been assassinating people affiliated with the government, they hung some of our men publicly, they have displaced hundreds of thousands of families. The families are in camps in Kabul after fleeing these provinces, and they are in unsanitary condition. There is looting in the camps and babies dying because they don’t have milk. It is a humanitarian crisis, and yet the world is silent.
We have grown accustomed to this silence, yet we know it is not fair. We know that this decision to abandon our people is wrong, that this hasty troop withdrawal is a betrayal of our people and all that we did when Afghans won the Cold War for the west. Our people were forgotten then, leading up to the Taliban’s dark rule, and now, after twenty years of immense gains for our country and especially our younger generations, all could be lost again in this abandonment.
We need your voice. The media, governments, and the world humanitarian organizations are conveniently silent as if this “Peace deal” with the Taliban was ever legitimate. It was never legitimate. Recognizing them gave them the confidence to come back to power. The
Taliban have been brutalizing our people throughout the entire process of the talks. Everything that I have worked so hard to build as a filmmaker in my country is at risk of falling. If the Taliban take over they will ban all art. I and other filmmakers could be next on their hit list. They will strip women’s rights, we will be pushed into the shadows of our homes and our voices, our expression will be stifled into silence. When the Taliban were in power, zero girls were in school. Since then there are over 9 million Afghan girls in school. This is incredible Herat, the third-largest city which just fell to the Taliban had nearly 50% women in its university. These are incredible gains that the world hardly knows about. Just in these few weeks, the Taliban have destroyed many schools and 2 million girls are forced now out of school again.
I do not understand this world. I do not understand this silence. I will stay and fight for my country, but I cannot do it alone. I need allies like you. Please help us get this world to care about what is happening to us. Please help us by informing your countries’ most important media what is going on here in Afghanistan. Be our voices outside Afghanistan. If the Taliban take over Kabul, we may not have access to the internet or any communication tool at all. Please engage your filmmakers, artists to support us to be our voice.
This war is not a civil war, this is a proxy war, this is an imposed war and it is the result of the US deal with the Taliban. Please as much as you can share this fact with your media and write about us on your social media.
The world should not turn its back on us. We need your support and your voice on behalf of Afghan women, children, artists, and filmmakers. This support would be the greatest help we need right now.
Please help us get this world to not abandon Afghanistan. Please help us before the Taliban take over Kabul. We have such little time, maybe days. Thank you so much. I appreciate your pure true heart so dearly.
With regard,
Sahraa Karimi

I feel sad that my friend Syed Azmi is being viciously cyber-bullied. I have worked with Mi on some cases and he's been very diligent and patient with my late night calls and has been a great mentor helping me with Humarap and the work I do with single mothers and babies.
When MoM and Humarap set up a Kitafund last year to help the vulnerable communities and children in Sabah, I set the fundraiser to RM20,000. The moment I shared it, he rang and asked for more info. It wasn't too long before PUAKPayong, an NGO that he spearheads, transferred the total amount. I then raised it to RM50K and with the help of other kindred souls, we hit the target and more.
Reading some of the nasty and unconstructive comments with regards to #JusticeForBella makes me ponder about the actual intention of some individuals. The word JUSTICE has strayed from the main concern in ensuring the best interest of the teen, is safeguarded.
He may have overlooked, he may have been seen as not being persistent enough, but I can assure you, he is NEVER malicious and I know this for a fact.
He has helped many, many people. I've been privy to some of the sensitive cases he has to deal with and as an observer from the side taking notes whilst he conducts these one on ones, I see compassion and perseverance in standing up for the most needful in the society.
Picking up from a conversation with another friend who knows Mi personally too, I echo her sentiments.
"He did what he did, said what he thought, without even insinuating anyone when there were many times he could have, even now. When he attempted to share his side of story, not just he was unfairly adjudicated, bits and pieces were extracted and used against him with no mercy, without looking at those excerpts in totality."
Azmi has newly acquired knowledge in criminal justice, so he spoke with greater caution than before, not mentioning names, not giving minute details as all these may have negative repercussions on the investigation process.
Let's hope Bella's assailants will be successfully prosecuted because too much have been out in the media which may be detrimental to the case - potential witness statements out in the public; documents and evidence likewise.
"People forget, burden of proof in a criminal case is beyond reasonable doubt. Chain of evidence must be absolutely intact to secure conviction."
And that is why I hope the dialogue for wanting justice can progress into something that will help. Let's encourage other witnesses to have the courage to tell their stories with accuracy to strengthen the case. Let us mount pressure to not just get legal procedures done swiftly, but to also ensure other caretakers of shelter homes do what they were entrusted to do - to take care of the being of the residents of their home...and more.

Halfway through 2021.. (a pretty lengthy post)
It's a time to remind me to relook at my goals and focus again😌 This would mean there will be some changes in my social media content and choosing what is good for me. Focusing on my work, trying to stabilize it and setting out the new plans.
Now when it comes to my kids... at every stage of their life, I'm always learning how to handle them and making changes to how we can all improve. Recently, I have adopted a reward point system, which I was against it previously. WHY?🤔 Because I did not feel the need to reward something which I feel that it's their responsibility or duty?
Sometimes, we do need to take a step back and try if it works WHEN ALL ELSE FAIL 🤣. Like I always tell my kid, "If you never try, you will never know."
So I started the rewards system. Initially, I used an app (@wearesmoresup) that was shared in my IGS, but I encountered a problem. I did not allow my kids to use gadgets, so the app became pointless even though I really love it and how I wish they have web version too.
Anyway, back to rewards, so I set the rules even on basic stuff, so they can feel that goals are easily achievable which in turns helps to motivate them on tougher work.
Steps on making rewards work
1. Give each other a time of adaptation (磨合期), like a week. So you will know what to adjust and the kids know how the system works.
2. Points are rewarded when they do it automatically. Once you have to remind them, they will not be rewarded any points.
3. Be fair. Especially if u have more than 1 child, both tasks and consequences are to set the same, unless the age gap are too big.
4. Encourage them to help remind each other on the task they need to do.
5. Pin it up at the living room or place where they spent most of their time.
6. Give simple rewards, like extra TV time, play time, outdoor activity instead of toys all the way.
I set their rewards according to the points. So whenever they hit the points, they can redeem it. So example:
Extra play time 20 points
Superpark 150 points
Science Centre 50 points
so if they have 200 points, they can choose to redeem any of the rewards above.
Ok, that's about the rewards. Here comes the schedule.
All along, I did the schedule just for myself and one to put outside. But this time round, I made a slight change, I do for the girls too. So each one of them have their own schedule chart. They will have to follow the schedule that is given to them.
It's just less than 5 days of trying how this whole thing works, but so far I have seen slight improvement especially on Xin He. No more screaming at her to wake up in the morning. That's is very important, because we all want to start our day nice. 🤭
When I shared about the rewards and schedule in my IGs, many people has requested for my template, so I have put up the template here lnk.bio/missyqiqi. Feel free to download and use it. Hope it helps, and welcome any suggestions or ideas 💡 that we can all improve together!

Allen Iverson calmly sank two free throws, and the magic number flashed on the scoreboard: 50 points.
The last time he did it, people had a problem with it.
This time, it was a milestone that showed how much things have changed.
Iverson tied his career high and made a mockery of his showdown with Sacramento's Jason Williams as the 76ers beat the Kings 119-108.
Iverson's performance was reminiscent of the one in Cleveland three years ago when he put up 50 in the city where he was booed during the rookie game at All-Star weekend.
Now, his team is in position to make the playoffs for the second straight season after an eight-year drought, and Iverson is finally shedding his reputation as a selfish showman who cares only about stats.
He was roundly criticized for his string of 40-point games as a rookie, accused of padding his stats in a push for the Rookie of the Year award--which he won.
Iverson's response this time: "I don't mind taking 40 shots. That's what I do."
"I played that game like it was my last when I was a rookie and scored 50," said Iverson, who equaled the most points scored in the NBA this season. "I did the same thing tonight, just like I do every night. And we won."
Iverson, approaching his first All-Star game, had a slew of incredible numbers: A career-high 20 field goals and 40 attempts, nine rebounds and six assists.
He favorite stat was the one that goes in the standings. Unlike his other 50-point game, the Sixers won.
"Regardless of whether I score 50 points or five points, I'm going to play as hard as I can," Iverson said. "I'm going to play every game like it's my last. I've been saying it since I got here. Regardless if the shots go in or not, I'm going to play hard."
Williams, the Kings' flashy point guard, had 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting and was not a factor in the outcome or the highlight reel.
Both realms belonged to Iverson, who scored 50 for the first time since he became the first rookie since Wilt Chamberlain to have four straight 40-point games. He had 50 on April 12, 1997, in a 125-118 loss to Cleveland.
Iverson scored 12 in the first quarter, 15 in the second, 12 in the third and 11 in the fourth. The Sixers improved to 3-10 in his career when he scores 40 or more.
"He took 40 shots?" said an incredulous Chris Webber, who led Sacramento with 32 points and 15 rebounds. "He made a lot of them, though."
Sixers coach Larry Brown didn't mind the 40 shots, either.
"I played with Rick Barry, and a lot of guys would mumble about the number of shots he takes," Brown said. "And his remark was, 'Half you guys can't get 40 shots.' And I think it's justified. I think it's a remarkable thing that Allen can do that most nights and not look like he lost anything."
It was quite a show witnessed by Philadelphia's fourth sellout crowd this season--including comedian Bill Cosby--and a national TV audience.
"It's nice to see Allen play well in a TV game," Brown said. "There was a time we were never on it, and the reason we're on it now is because we've won a couple of games and Allen's on the team."
Webber fouled out on a dizzying play that produced the two free throws that gave Iverson 50 points. With Philadelphia leading 107-102 and Iverson sitting on 48 points, he knifed into the lane and got his shot blocked as the clock approached the one-minute mark. Eric Snow clapped for him to give up the ball, but Iverson went back into the lane and drew Webber's sixth foul.
Brown motioned to his star with two hands to settle down. After a timeout, Iverson sank both free throws to hit 50 points, giving the Sixers a 109-102 lead with 1:37 left.
Snow had 11 points, 13 assists and no turnovers in what Brown,a former point guard, called "about the best game a point guard can have."
Iverson also hit 50 at the foul line three years ago in Cleveland, but under very different circumstances. He'd been booed when winning the rookie game MVP trophy in Cleveland, and was booed again on that April night. The Sixers were on their way to a 22-60 season.
Iverson had been so worried about the crowd reaction he'd receive in Cleveland that he called his mother, Ann, and told her not to attend the game. He said those thoughts were far away Sunday.
"I wasn't even paying attention," Iverson said. "I was just playing my game."
Notes: Iverson matched the Kings' total of 12 in the third as Philadelphia led 88-73. He scored 27 in the first half as the Sixers led by as many as 14. ... The Kings' eight-game road trip also matched a franchise high. The Cincinnati Royals were 3-5 in 1968-69, and the Kings were 3-5 in 1986-87.

Streets of Rage 2 gets a lot of attention, and deservedly so, but Streets of Rage is also an excellent game.
Its music is darker and more depressing than its sequel's. It encapsulates the latent feeling of fear in the streets of New York City in the 1990s perfectly.
During the 16-bit era, a lot of developers tried to make their sprites as big as possible, and their games, in turn, were impressive to look at, but it wasn't always in the best interest of the gameplay to have such big sprites taking up a lot of the screen. With Streets of Rage, I think the sprites are the perfect size so that they don't crowd the screen too much.
A good way to illustrate my point would be to look at the Megaman-games on NES, and then look at Megaman VII on SNES. The sprites are huge - unnecessarily huge, in Megaman VII. The game is still playable, of course, but sizing sprites appropriately is very important.
Streets of Rage is also more difficult than Streets of Rage 2, but not too much in a cheap way, unlike Final Fight.
When I was in high-school, I once went over to someone's house and we played Streets of Rage 2. There, I learned about the infinite combo, where instead of doing a full melee-combo, you hit an enemy once or twice, and wait... and hit him or her once or twice again. The enemy will be stunned, unable to do anything. It also works in Streets of Rage. You can see me using it as much as possible, especially when I'm only fighting one enemy.
I had little trouble until Round 4. I got myself thrown into a hole, which took off one life instantly, and the boss that breathes fire gave me trouble as well.
The two palette-swaps of Blaze that serve as Round 5 bosses also historically give me trouble and today was no different.
In Round 6, I encountered the rotund fire-breather mid-level, and he gave me trouble again.
In Round 7, I started throwing people off the elevator, but unfortunately, I got thrown off as well.
In Round 8, I tried jumping out of the way of the first moving table, but I got hit, so I decided to attack it instead, and it worked. My biggest worry was facing the Round 4 boss again, but I caught him in an infinite combo, and he went down. I had a lot more trouble against the Round 5 bosses than I did during Round 5 itself.
I wasn't sure I had enough lives and continues to take down Mr. X, but he was easier than I thought he was.
To play and record, again I used a Model 1 NTSC Sega Genesis/Megadrive using HD Retrovision component-video cables and line-quadrupled the 240p signal to 960p using an OSSC. I captured the footage with a Micomsoft XCapture-1. Today I tried line-quintupling (5X), and my monitor liked it, but the XCapture-1 did not.
