China’s polarizer industry is expected to occupy 40% of global polarizer production capacity after #NingboShanshan acquires #LG_Chem’s polarizer business.

After Chinese companies topped the world’s #display #panel capacities, China has set its sights on domestic manufacturing of related panel components as its top priority.
Ningbo Shanshan’s surprising takeover of #LGC’s polarizer business is quite representative of the overall movement of Chinese firms with regards to obtaining polarizer capacity share; Shanshan/SAPO/Sunnypol/CMMT will account for 41% of the global polarizer capacity.
Since the large-sized #LCD polarizer market is hypercompetitive, with Japanese/Korean companies holding the majority supply of compensation/protective films, should Shanshan merely take over LGC’s operations, the Chinese firm is expected to face many challenges in the market.
But if Shanshan can collaborate with Hangzhou Jinjiang, which was another forerunner in the takeover bid for LGC, then this would-be partnership is expected to benefit the polarizer industry in China going forward. As things now stand, future development remains to be seen.
