4am practice, Shanghai, crappy gym, no media, 15 players, just hoopin and Coach Kobe yelling instructions. This was taken at my all time favorite event working with Kobe.
“Hey Kobe, why we practicing at 4am?”
“Becuz no one else is Alex.”
He said to not just be on time. Be the first one there. Be the first one at practice. Be the first one at the game. Get in a routine, be prepared, get in the right frame of mind. Do it everyday, hone your craft, do everything with a purpose.
I’ve never forgotten those words and it’s something l live by professionally. I make it a point to arrive hours before the client expects me at every event I host. They are always surprised and they always ask why am I there so early? I always look up and say “it’s my routine, I wanna be prepared for the event, and I wanna get in the right frame of mind.” Mamba Mentality

Dear Kobe,
The first time I heard of your name was from my Sihing saying “Little Kobe” . Back in 1996 on the Los Angeles Lakers, you were still a substitute of Eddie Jones. But not for long, you became one of the best on the team and lead lakers to a 3-Peat.
There’s no doubt that you are the most influential basketball player since Michael Jordan. Your talent might not be as good as Shaq or TMac, you might not be as strong as Lebron or MJ, but your motivation to win, competitiveness, desire lead the Lakers to a total of 5 NBA Championship. Even your rivals would respect you and you can win all the fans in the world. I appreciate your attention to details of training, expectations on teammates, you would also die hard in both the offensive and defensive ends to make sure your team will win a Win.
I was born in Los Angeles, I have been watching NBA since I was in my mom’s womb. At the time it was the show time, Kareem Abdul-Jabber and Magic Johnson.
I really started watching NBA in the Jordan’s last two years in Chicago Bulls. But the one to grow with me was you. It is sad that I started my NBA Commentating career in 2016-17 season as I never had a chance to enjoy your game as a commentator. My friends asked me a few times about who I would want to interview, I said it’s you Kobe.
Your attitude inspired me, made me more persistent and demanding in my career.
I remember on March 4th 2013, the most memorable game in my life back in Purdue. In the pre-game talk, I told my teammates this would be the most important game in our lives and we had to play with Mamba’s mentality, never give up and go all in.
Now no matter I’m a coach, a player or even a bench warmer, I would always carry a winner’s mentality to compete on court.
Whenever I have a hard time at work, I would always think of you, be positive, persistent and confident, I know chances will come one day.
Because of my role as a commentator, the sports fans never really know I’m a Lakers Fans. Your hardwork and passion are what younger generation should learn from. When you made things happened, you made us feel nothing is impossible, giving hope to younger kids.
Kobe, we have never met before but I started following you since you started your NBA career, I’m a young commentator, your young fan.
You are a true winner, thanks Kobe!
Thanks
Emil
Seniors told me the pass away of Kobe was like Bruce Lee’s in the 70s. It was shocking and devastating😢
Treasure your families, Cherish your friends.❤
We need to have that Mamba’s mentality, never give up, and to go All In.
You are a true winner, thanks Kobe!
