Ok kita sambung bab stress - how it inhabits our ability to make irrational food choices ⬇️
High cortisol activates a part of the brain that makes you crave pleasurable foods, but goal-oriented parts of your brain are reduced.
This means, even if you have every intention of eating healthy meal (protein & veggies), you’ll be overwhelmed with a desire for high carbs delight like bread, cake, chips when you are stressed.
High carb foods lead to the release of insulin (a hormone that acts as a cortisol antagonist). When blood sugar is elevated and insulin is released, cortisol begins to go down, easing your experience of stress.
This craving for carbs is actually something of a protective mechanism against sky-high cortisol.
CAN U IMAGINE GIVING INTO YOUR FOOD CRAVINGS EVERY TIME YOU ARE STRESS?
This will generate a large amount of insulin release and elevate the fat storing enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LPL) which made our belly, a perfect fat storing environment!
Cortisol also causes damage to cells, which makes them less sensitive to insulin. As insulin resistance develops, the hunger hormones leptin and ghrelin get out of whack and your brain becomes unresponsive to the “stop eating” message, making you unable to control how much you eat.
SOLUTION?
Have your meal ready (meal prep) if you can. Otherwise, get your healthy meal right away during each meal time and do not detour to window shop the sweet, high carbs delights!
Stay Away from the holiday cookies lovelies! Christmas is next month not today or tomorrow or few weeks to come!
