* 英國新冠狀病毒新變種，導致迅速傳播，專家歸咎於成千上萬的人在感恩節假期的交义傳染。英國引入了嚴格的四級混合隔離規則，對英格蘭，蘇格蘭和威爾斯的聖誕節進行更嚴格的限制。其他歐洲國家宣佈將英國列為禁止旅行的國家。
關於此次英國出現的變種病毒，三個現象引發專家關切：
■它正在迅速替代原病毒的其他版本
■它具有影響病毒的部分突變，這可能很重要

Tóm ý nhanh - Hiểu thật rõ nào!
1. SNEAKERS vs. TRAINERS
Sneakers (American) là giày thể thao thiết kế để mang đồ casual, thoải mái.
Trainers (British) là giày thể thao thiết kế với đế cao su thích hợp thể thao, tập gym, chạy bộ.
2. FRENCH FRIES vs. CHIPS
French Fries (American) là khoai tây chiên. Còn “chips” với họ là snack (bim bim) khoai tây chiên như Poca hay O’star ấy.
Chips (British) là khoai tây chiên. Còn “crisps” là snack khoai tây chiên.
3. ELEVATOR vs. LIFT
Elevator (American) nghe dài hơn và khó đọc hơn đúng không?
Lift (British) ngắn hơn, bắt nguồn từ “lift” là nhấc lên đó.
4. SUBWAY vs. TUBE
SUBWAY (American): tàu điện ngầm, hoặc tàu hỏa thì gọi là “train”.
TUBE (British): Ở thủ đô London họ sẽ gọi là “tube”, còn những nơi khác London họ gọi là “train” hoặc “metro” (metro có hành trình ngắn hơn train)
5. COTTON CANDY vs. CANDY FLOSS
Cotton Candy (American): Kẹo bông gòn, từ “cotton” là bông gòn vì họ thấy nó giống cục bông.
Candy Floss (British): từ “floss” là bắt nguồn từ “dental floss - chỉ nha khoa” họ thấy nó giống sợi chỉ nha khoa :)
6. MOVIES vs. FILMS
MOVIES (American): bộ phim, rạp chiếu phim sẽ là “movie theater” hoặc “the theater”.
FILMS (British): bộ phim, rạp chiếu phim là “cinema”.
P/s: 2 từ này cực kỳ đau não vì có rất nhiều ý kiến trái chiều là Films và Movies là giống nhau. Nhưng cũng có người nói là Film là “single motion picture” còn Movie là “motion pictures”. Hay “Film is a story, movie is not.” Rất nhiều ý kiến, thôi mọi người tự tìm hiểu nha :))
7. CAB vs. TAXI
CAB (American): xe taxi ở Mỹ người ta gọi là “cab”. “Cab” thực ra là taxi mà ở Mỹ họ gọi là “taxicabs” thôi, bạn nào coi phim sẽ thấy cab ở New York màu vàng siêu đẹp, retro.
TAXI (British): xa taxi ở Anh họ gọi là “taxi”. “Taxi” thì nghiêm ngặt về licensing và có thể bắt bất cứ lúc nào trên đường, vd ở London là taxi màu đen.
8. GAS vs. PETROL
GAS (American): trạm xăng ở Mỹ là Gas Station, ngoài ra “gas” có thể gọi là “gasoline”.
PETROL (British): Ở Anh, Ấn và một số nước khác gọi là “Petrol station”.
9. SWEATER vs. JUMPER
SWEATER (American): áo tay dài, dày, chất liệu nỉ hoặc len, trên wikipedia nói sweater “heavier” hơn jumper.
JUMPER (British): áo tay dài, mỏng hơn, chất liệu thường là len, và nếu bạn lên google search thì sẽ thấy jumper nam và sweater nam giống nhau. Còn jumper nữ và sweater nữ khác nhau.
10. BUDDY vs. MATE
BUDDY (American): thường dùng để gọi bạn nam, bạn thân, bạn hoặc ai đó lạ cũng được. Kiểu “Hey buddy, long time no see?”
MATE (British): thực ra thì mate dùng ở Úc nhiều hơn, thường dùng gọi bạn nam để thân thiện hơn, ví dụ “See you then, mate.”
