As a country, we have many strengths to be proud of, but our greatest strength is our people.

During COVID-19, we stepped up in so many ways to support one another:
- making hand sanitizers
- sewing facemasks
- delivering food to the quarantined
- refurbishing laptops for disadvantaged kids
- caring for migrant workers
- vaccinating the elderly
- or showing a little extra kindness to one another, starting young

In this moment of crisis, Singaporeans have continued to look ahead, and to pour heart and soul into our hopes and dreams. In ordinary times, we may not realise how strong Singaporeans can be. Now, in the crisis of a generation, we have shown ourselves and the world what Singaporeans can do.

DELIVERY WORKERS

PM Lee: I am especially concerned about a specific group of lower-wage workers. These are delivery workers who work with online platforms like Foodpanda, Grab & Deliveroo. They lack the job protection that most employees have, like workplace injury compensation, union representation and employer CPF.

Besides delivery workers, there are also some lower-wage workers in other jobs who have an employee-like relationship with platforms. Such lower-wage workers will find it harder to afford housing, healthcare & eventually retirement. More people are taking up this type of work, so this problem is growing.

The Singapore Ministry of Manpower is studying it, and will be doing consultations. We must address the issues & give these workers more secure futures.

Singapore Ministry of Manpower sets out to help lower-wage workers progress and fulfil their potential. MOM summarises its support measures into the 4W’s: Progressive Wages, Workfare, Workcare and Workright.

Improving the lives of lower-wage workers and their loved ones calls for a whole-of-society effort from the Government, employers, unions and individuals. Let us work together for a fairer and more inclusive society for all Singaporeans, just like this video encourages.
