The True Miracle Blocker
“Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.” He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them. He marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.” (Mark 6:3-6 WEB)
The people of Nazareth were so focused on what they knew and saw with their five senses. They walked by sight. It was easy to fall into this trap because they saw little Jesus growing up right there, seemingly ordinary, and His parents were just normal, honest folk.
Granted, Jesus would have been smarter and more well-behaved than His peers, but the townsfolk would never imagine that this boy was actually their long-awaited Messiah and the actual Son of God.
Truth is spiritually discerned. When you rely on your fleshly brain and the five senses, you may miss out on what God is trying to show you by the Spirit.
Have you ever experienced a moment where you mind and your spirit were at loggerheads? Your brain is telling you that it is a good decision and that everything looks so right, but you just have this bad feeling in your gut that says something is wrong. I experienced this many times and I’m thankful that I listened to the spirit on most of these occurrences. It saved me from suffering unnecessary losses and pain.
It is not that Jesus had no power to heal or do miracles in Nazareth. God’s power was always flowing out of Him like mighty rivers, but the Nazarenes rejected the supply because of unbelief. No matter how much water is available in the storage reservoir, you will not get any if you refuse to turn on the tap.
Those few sick people in Nazareth discerned spiritually that Jesus is the Christ, perhaps because they had an urgent need. Their minds were open to seeing possibilities—they wanted to believe that Jesus could heal them.
The sick people were definitely not perfect practitioners of the Law of Moses. They were able to receive healing simply because they believed.
Today, it is not sin that is preventing you from receiving miracles or healing. It is unbelief.
Yes, indulging in habitual sin can be a major hindrance to faith because it produces self-condemnation and thus unbelief. But it is not the sin that is blocking your miracle or healing.
Jesus did not heal anyone who was perfect in their works. None of those who were healed by Him kept the Ten Commandments perfectly.
If being perfect was a criteria to receiving healing, then no one would have been healed when they touched Jesus. Yet, the multitudes who touched Jesus freely received healing simply because they believed they would be healed.
Today, if you really want to be set free from sickness, or if you need a miracle, choose to look beyond the outward circumstances, and let go of self-condemnation which is a form of self-righteousness.
See a good God who is freely dispensing His grace (undeserved favor and kindness) because the blood of Christ paid for it. Your sins were punished at the cross—Jesus took the punishment so that you would not have to. God is righteous in being gracious to you because Jesus’ blood is an overpayment for the sin debt of the whole world, and there is much more credit to be tapped on!

Let Jesus be your Goal
“Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.” (Hebrews 12:1-3 WEB)
It is easier to do tasks well when there is a goal to focus on, especially for projects that need lots of time to complete—your morale can dip after many days of repetition with minimal progress.
The world teaches goal setting, but their goals are things like milestones. We have something much more powerful.
We are taught to “look unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith”—He is our goal to focus on.
No matter what race you’re running in this season, when you feel weary and like you’re going to faint in your soul (mind, will and emotions), “consider Him”. Think about Jesus as revealed in the Scriptures and aim to be like Him. Then, do your task as worship unto Him.
“even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38 WEB)
While He was on earth, Jesus went about doing good in the power of the Holy Spirit. He foiled the works of the devil. Jesus didn’t rely on His own divinity, but fully submitted to the Father’s will and depended on the power of the Holy Spirit. He did this to teach us how to live by faith in obedience to God.
When you feel discouraged, you can think, “What would Jesus do in this situation? My goal is to be like Jesus.”
The answer will come, and then you can straightaway receive the empowerment from the Holy Spirit to walk in that reality.
For example, let’s say that you’re a parent who is dealing with an unmotivated child who doesn’t want to study for his exams.
Your flesh may be tempted to feel angry or discouraged when you’re trying your best to teach him and he’s not even taking it seriously.
Pause and focus on Jesus, seeing Him as your goal. What would Jesus do? He would be very patient and loving in teaching your child, and He would have the wisdom to know exactly what would motivate your child. Perhaps there are underlying reasons for this behavior.
After knowing these, you can pray and receive the fruits of patience and love from the Holy Spirit, as well as any knowledge and wisdom to discern underlying causes for being unmotivated in studies.
Another scenario: It is a busy season at work. Your colleague at work suddenly talks very rudely to you, snapping at you and blaming you for her stress.
Your may feel that surge of indignation and anger rising up in your flesh, driving you to shout back at her.
Take a deep breath and focus on Jesus. What would Jesus do? Like how He spoke to Martha who was occupied with much serving, Jesus knew that she was stressed out because she was relying on her own strength to serve. He didn’t shout at her, He understood.
Then pray to have an understanding, patient and magnanimous heart like Jesus, not taking offense at those who lack the revelation of relying on the grace of God. Working only by the flesh leads to stress and burnout. You’ll realize that you won’t get angry, and instead become compassionate and empathetic.
It is good to have a goal to help you focus and perform your tasks better in life. Let Jesus always be that goal. Steadily look to Him and rely on the Holy Spirit to supply the power to live like Jesus. This is a very practical way to experience more peace, joy and fruitfulness in your life!

Be Open to the Holy Spirit Moving in New Ways!
“When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. He held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father; for this is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.” His father refused, and said, “I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his offspring will become a multitude of nations.”” (Genesis 48:17-19 WEB)
This is a fresh word from the Holy Spirit.
If God used to do something in your local church or in your life, it does not mean He will always do it the same way.
In the passage above, Joseph was displeased when his father Jacob blessed Ephraim with the firstborn blessing instead of Manasseh who was his firstborn by natural order of birth.
Joseph thought this way because that’s the way it has been done all along. But it doesn’t mean that it’s a rule.
Just because God chose to move a certain way in the past, doesn’t mean He will keep doing it in that style forever.
He does new things. Be open to flowing with the Holy Spirit and don’t be set on old patterns—if not, it’ll just be a useless tradition of man.
When the Holy Spirit has already moved forward and is beckoning you to follow, don’t be stubborn in clinging on to old ways. There’s no power in traditions that are not backed by the Holy Spirit.
When we try and put God into a box, we limit the potential of what He can do in our lives (since He won’t force us against our will).
It will delay progress and take a journey of opening your heart to change.
Why waste the time? We can skip ahead and trust God in whatever way He leads us.
“When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there. Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works? Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers, James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? Aren’t all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?” They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house.” He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13:53-58 WEB)
When the people of Nazareth saw Jesus again, they were offended by Him because of what they knew about Him in the past.
They still saw Jesus as that ordinary carpenter’s son when He had already stepped forward into a new season of His life as the revealed Messiah.
Their unbelief caused them to miss out on God’s mighty miracles. They couldn’t move on from past ways and past experiences, so they were denied from new ways of breakthroughs.
God’s Word, His nature and principles are unchanging, but He uses different methods to bring His purposes to pass.
In this season, a new appointed time of God, where many people can only attend church services online, let us not despise it. It is still full of God’s power because He is moving through this new medium.
Be expectant to receive fresh breakthroughs in new ways, as the Holy Spirit chooses!

「Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together. “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it. But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.」
