There is a number a paper offering stores near Queen's Road West, Sai Ying Pun 西營盤皇后大道西. Every year before the Mid-Autumn festival, the street becomes a Lantern Street! One thing we found disappointing is that the quality of the handmade lantern dropped. Swipe to see the last 2 photos, those are the rabbit and goldfish lanterns we found 4 years ago.

Don’t forget to check out 卓越食品餅店, which is right opposite to these Lantern shop for the Piggy biscuit #豬籠餅 #豬仔餅, which was once a very popular Mid-autumn festival snack!

Bakers used to bake a small portion of mooncake dough to test the temperature of the oven. To sell off leftover mooncake dough, bakers make it into the shape of piggy, goldfish, and sold them in tiny colourful pig cages.

Mid Autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month (falls on 21st September, 2021 in western calendar). On this full moon (which symbolizes family reunion) night, family members gather to eat mooncakes, play lanterns and enjoy the moon.

Daily advice for HK immigrants to the West:

Regarding workplace sexual harassment, a lot more of white men have Asian female fetish than you imagine. It’s really “a thing” around here. They aren’t attracted to you as much as the “idea” of you being Asian and female. No one wants to be someone’s sex toy. If anyone even shows a hint of sexual harassment, it’s best to put an end to it instead of laughing it off to be “one of the boys”. As an immigrant, you may feel vulnerable and want to fit in. You shouldn’t sacrifice your dignity or worse to get ahead. It’s a tough world out there. We like to think that we’ve progressed a lot more than we have, but we have a long long way to go. Your dignity is all you have. Respect yourself and others will respect you.

Daily advice for HK immigrants to the West:

Regarding parenting, you need to do more than making money to provide for your family. Your kids need your emotional support. You need to be involved in your kid’s lives. Many parents are so busy making money that they simply have no time to go to their children’s events. Some will force the kids to play piano while they aren’t even musical. That’s not going to work. You need to be attending your kids’ sports events or debates or other after school activities. In fact, it’s even better to be involved with their learning process. I had trained martial arts and lifted weights with both my kids as they’re growing up. Of course, I’m not perfect in being their coach outside of the mat room or the dojo, but I’m involved. It’s unwise to make the youth pastor, the coach or piano teacher your kid’s babysitter. If you can’t commit or don’t have enough leisure time to walk with your kids during this transition and their adolescent years, don't immigrate. Your kids may end up hating you. They may become latch-key kids who have to transition from having maids in HK to not even having parents present to care for them here, while you work your butt off. You’re better off not immigrating to the West.

Once you have the Crank, head to the Lone Road area west of the Altar. Once you reach the river, head right and use the Crank to lower the bridge. Cross and then get on the boat and head south. Once you reach the small plot of land where you can disembark, do so and head right into the cave. The Foregrip will be located in a briefcase at the end of the path.
