Dos Mestizos Boracay
I stumbled upon this fancy restaurant, Dos Mestizos which you can locate at the Main road, Station 1. Across Seawind Resort.
I was fascinated with how they seem to always get people to dine in and have drinks. On May 12, 2021, I visited the place and dined in and it was not a pleasant experience as I expected.
I am DJ Macky Suson, and I have been here in Boracay for two weeks. After living in Singapore for 10 years and suffered from mental health disorders, I chose Boracay as my place to recover. I have decided to review the places I go to, to help this beloved island improve on things it offers- food, a place to stay, drinks, activities, price and most importantly, the service.
I was greeted by the owner, if I am not mistaken with warm welcome which I expected as I always see him at the place talking to people. Dos Mestizo’s signature ‘Mestizo’ is traditional Spanish dishes elevated by complementing Filipino flavors and other carefully selected ingredients imported from Europe. The menu was not that comprehensive and all I could see was Paella. And so I thought, that’s probably what they are pushing and that’s their best selling food. I ordered a glass fresh pineapple juice, PAELLA VALENCIANA, small. The price was roughly 30 Singapore Dollars and I was expecting for it to be really good.
There was a complimentary bread that’s served and I actually loved it, specially the sauce. After finishing it, I thought, the paella could be better. It was not the case.
In Barcelona, they have a fast food for paella and most locals there said it’s bad. The truth is, my paella experience at that fast food in Barcelona was a lot way better than in Dos Meztisos.
PAELLA VALENCIANA looked great. I wish it tasted great but it was not the case. It was really dry to begin with. The rice seemed to be hit by El Niño as it was as dry as the season. The overall taste was okay. I mean for 30 Singapore Dollars, it’s unacceptable. The serving was good for 1 adult and one kid. The nightmare happened when I ate a portion of meat which tasted rotten. It seemed like it was placed in the fridge for months and they did not notice. It destroyed the entire experience. But at that time, I wanted to throw up but I could not because the owner was literally in front of me and so with other 3 guests.
This place is probably great for drinking but for food, I would not recommend for people to come here. I am happy I did not have food poisoning.
Next: I went to Ambassador in Paradise and tried their Night in Ambassador Cocktail. Was it great? Follow for the review.

Movie outings are always more fun when you are with friends!
We were at the preview of Dora and The Lost City of Gold yesterday and these kids, who were seated side by side, kept laughing throughout the whole show. I asked them afterwards "Why did you all keep laughing ah?" And they said "Because the show is funny and we are happy!"
Well, we've known Dora for a decade now and have over two dozen of her storybooks in our library and even a set of her DVDs - in Mandarin and Spanish okay, haha, that was before Netflix and Smart TV came along - which we watched often when I was alone with the big girl back in Sweden. Dora is all about having an adventurous spirit, never giving up in the face of adversity, being true to yourself and geniunely nice to everyone around you.
I love how the movie features the classic characters like Boots and Swiper and how there is even a short cartoon segment that brings back the fond memories - Hello Benny, Isa, Tico and the adorable Backpack. Every time Dora tried to sing a song to make everyone feel better, I couldn't help but smile and love her big heart. The story of Dora entering high school and trying her best to make friends is also a reminder for the kids to be who they are deep within and not let others take that away from you. True friends don't judge and will love you for who you are.
Even though the story is a little predictable for the hubby and I, we still found ourselves laughing out loud at many parts of the movie and enjoyed it tremendously with our kids too. Yup, considering we've read and watched so many of her stories, it's nice to see it on the big screen for the first time and Isabela Moner, who looks just like Dora, did an amazing job in making the character come alive.
The movie opens on 29 August in cinemas. If your kids love Dora, don't miss this for the world. If your kids have no idea who she is but loves a little adventure, humour and thrill, this will be a good way to keep them happy and the whole family entertained too. Thanks for having us, @uipsingapore!

For us, travel is random. We decided to go to Corçà, Catalonia, on a whim. We had no regrets.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We had planned to visit Montserrat after Barcelona but the rain made that idea impractical. No point walking around Montserrat on a day that was pouring. So I said, let’s try Girona.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We ended up in the small village of Corça in a B&B named after the owner’s eight-year-old daughter. Leo, the owner, is a superb host and told us all the sights in the area.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We originally planned to stay for a night but ended up with another night because the room was so nice and there was so much to see in the neighbouring area of northern Catalonia, like Peratallada, Monells and Begur.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Matilda’s is a old Spanish house with rooms that had terraces and a basement room that used to be a stable and where a well was. We chose to stay in the basement room. It was like our own cozy cave.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the mornings, breakfast was on the highest floor, and we were welcomed by Pomelo, the owner’s dog, who would wait for us at our door and then lead us to the breakfast area upstairs. Once in a while, he would turn back to make sure we were following him.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then the wife would play with him and he would sit next to us, looking at us with his wet eyes, hoping for a bite.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Enjoy your breakfast but don’t feed him, haha,” Leo said to us, obviously used to his dog’s habits.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Wife was very taken by Pomelo and I had to remind her not to be swayed by his persuasive ways and not to give him any of her breakfast.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At night, we had dinner at one of the five restaurants in the tiny village. Walking through the medieval streets of Carrer del Mur and Carrer Major made us feel like we were in some Game of Thrones episode. Okay, maybe without the scary dragons and the Night King.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
