Urgent Help Needed‼️
*Refugee Children with Cancer Appeal*
The REF team are undertaking to support two young refugee children diagnosed with cancer, both of whom are being cared for by the paediatric oncology team at PPUKM, one of the only hospitals that are able to treat them. We have been told that both children have a good chance of survival with the respective treatments prescribed. The children and their individual stories are as follows:
1️⃣ Somina Begum is a 4-year-old Rohingya girl diagnosed with stage 4 Wilm's tumor, a rare form of kidney cancer in children. She is the youngest of two siblings, her parents and older sibling having sought refuge in Malaysia several years before she was born. Her family used to reside in JB but have moved to KL in recent weeks to begin her first set of chemo sessions. She will then undergo a surgery to remove her affected kidney, followed by further chemo & radiotherapy sessions. The total estimated cost for Somina is *RM100k*.
2️⃣ Joshua Mang is a 10-month-old baby boy from Myanmar, diagnosed with neuroblastoma. He is the only child to a couple who moved to Malaysia 6 years ago. Joshua’s father works as a waiter while his mother is a housewife. Joshua will also be undergoing chemo treatment and surgery, with an estimated total cost of about *RM50k*.
Refugee Emergency Fund - REF is pledging to allocate RM60k of our reserved funds to support both Somina and Joshua (RM15k has been spent). We therefore urgently need your help with further funds of RM90k so that these young ones are able to complete their treatment and get back to health.
