【Applications of Blockchain in SEA】
Although blockchain technology still in the early stages of commercial adoption, governments and industries alike are trialing a wide spectrum of applications--some more creative than others, although no less impactful.

From utility tokens pegged to the price of bananas to electricity payments to product verification and authenticity to national procurement, the use cases run the entire gamut. And the industry is only getting started. Although it's still too early to tell which models will ultimately prove fruitful and truly tackle customers' pain points, it is with unequivocal certainty that the time to experiment is now.

IdeaLab's Bill Gross once said that the single most important factor for startup success is timing. In the blockchain space, we've already seen the initial hype come and gone, leaving crypto prices struggling to find their lower ceiling, but also giving way for the true evangelists and believers to focus on the longterm development and adoption of the technology.

【Taiwan: The Next Crypto Capital of the World】
Taiwan is not always at the top destination in mind when entrepreneurs think of building a blockchain/crypto startup. But if you take a closer look at what this island of 23.5 million people has to offer, it suddenly becomes much more clear.

Particularly for foreign founders, Taiwan's cost of living and in turn cost of operations are significantly lower, upwards to a half or even a third of what you might be faced with in the US, Europe, but also Singapore and HK, two other countries seen as hotbeds for startup activity.

Taiwan was slow in anticipating and adjusting to the mobile era, but the nation's decision makers are now intent on putting Taiwan in the best position to capitalize on the next paradigm shifts: AI and blockchain. Specifically, they're looking to leverage the country's longstanding history of hardware and semiconductor manufacturing to capitalize on the trending intersection of hardware and software, specifically in the areas of industry 4.0, AIoT, and smart city.

A combination of regulatory initiatives to cultivate home-grown talent skilled in deep technologies, attract and retain foreign workers from abroad, and also create an all around more favorable operating landscape for AI/blockchain/crypto startups have already been set in motion, and will likely leave Taiwan in a pivotal position to get a leg up in the global technology race.
