【#香港研究】香港研究要發展，就要有自己嘅社群，有課程、有周年會議、有叢書、仲要有期刊，呢啲都係過去幾年嚟我嘅工作方向。依家最後一塊併圖都有嘞，就係期刊！《華人社會變遷》出版已超過十年，原名《香港社會學學報》，其後將範圍擴大至華人社會，但實際上仍以香港研究為主。今年起擴大了編輯委員會，除左大樂、少強和阿劍，我、智文和Kaxton也會加入為副總編，目標係成為首份以香港研究為中心嘅SSCI期刊！

To foster Hong Kong Studies, we need our own community, including teaching programmes, annual conferences, book series and also journal. These are the directions that I am pursuing over the past few years. Now we have secured the last piece of puzzle, i.e. journal. Originally called Hong Kong Journal of Sociology, Social Transformations in Chinese Societies has been published for more than 10 years. Officially the scope of this journal is to cover Chinese societies but in practice it still put its principal focus on Hong Kong Studies. Early this year, its editorial board has been reformed, apart from Tai Lok, Siu Keung and Kim, Chi Man, Kaxton and I will join as associate editors. I strive to make it as the first SSCI journal that take “Hong Kong Studies” as the principal focus!

【#STICSNews】Social Transformations in Chinese Societies (STICS) is a double-blind peer reviewed journal which provides an academic venue for researchers from all over the world to disseminate their findings on various issues related to Chinese societies.

With the formation of a new editorial team, STICS strives to appeal to social scientists of different disciplines from sociology to political science and from history to culture and communication. We welcomes submission of quality research articles, research notes, review essays and book reviews on all aspects of Chinese societies, particularly those studies that takes “Hong Kong” as a central subject of analysis. 【#香港研究】

香港PhD唔係垃圾。

十年前，正準備在香港城巿大學兼讀博士課程，論文導師張炳良教授跟我說：「一個學者的成就，最終取決於他的研究能力，而不是他的博士學位來自那一間大學」。師父這一句說話，我一直銘記於心，我下定決心要做好我的研究，証明本地博士也可以成為一流學者。

今天，我總算毋負師父當年的勸勉。

方志恒博士

Academy of Hong Kong Studies

Dr Fong Chi Hang, Brian’s research interests focus on public governance, legislative studies, budgetary politics, political economy and hybrid regimes.

Dr Fong secured Early Career Scheme funding from the Research Grants Council in 2015. As Principal Investigator, he is now leading a pioneering two-and-a-half-year project that is applying the OBS methodology to the assessment of budget openness in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Since joining the Institute in December 2013, Dr Fong has published three books, seven journal articles in leading international peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters in edited books. He was also awarded the prestigious 2014 Gordon White Prize by The China Quarterly and his article, "The Partnership between Chinese Government and Hong Kong's Capitalist Class: Implications for HKSAR Governance, 1997 – 2012" was regarded as "the most original article/research report published in The China Quarterly in the relevant year".

In August 2015, Dr Fong was appointed Associate Director of the Academy of Hong Kong Studies (AHKS), a newly established Institute-level Research and Development Centre in August 2015, charged with the responsibility of developing the centre. Since then, he has rolled out various initiatives including the Hong Kong Future Dialogue Series, the Global City Roundtable, an international summer school, a summer seminar for postgraduates, a seminar series for secondary schools and a telephone laboratory.

Dr Fong is a public intellectual and is very active in community services. He is Vice-Chairman of SynergyNet, a local policy think-tank. Dr Fong is currently a member of the Subsidised Housing Committee of the Housing Authority and member of the Secretary for Transport and Housing’s Youth Focus Group. He regularly publishes commentaries in leading local newspapers such as Ming Pao and the South China Morning Post, and is also an active commentator for various local electronic media such as Radio Television of Hong Kong and Now TV.
