閱讀筆記: PANDEMIC!
Perhaps an epidemic which threatens to decimate humanity should be treated as Well’s story turned around: the “Martian invaders” ruthlessly exploiting and destroying life on earth are we, humanity, ourselves; and after all devices of highly developed primates to defend themselves from us have failed, we are now threatened “by the humblest thing that God, in his wisdom, has put upon this earth,” stupid virus which just blindly reproduce themselves – and mutate (13).
The really difficult thing to accept is the fact that the ongoing epidemic is a result of natural contingency at its purest, that is just happened and hides no deeper meaning. In the larger order of things, we are just a species with no special importance (14).
In the last days, we hear repeatedly that each of us is personally responsible and has to follow the new rules. Media are full of stories about people who misbehaved and put themselves and others in danger, an infected man enters a store and coughs on everyone, that sort of thing. The problem with this is the same as the journalism dealing with the environmental crisis: the media over-emphasize our personal responsibility for the problem, demanding that we pay more attention to recycling and other behavioral issues. Such a focus on individual responsibility, necessary as it is to some degree, functions as ideology the moment it serves to obfuscate the bigger questions of how to change our entire economic and social system. The struggle against coronavirus can only be fought together with the struggle against ideological mystification, and as part of a general ecological struggle (88-89).
There is a key difference between the coronavirus epidemic and the ecological crisis. In the health crisis, it may be true that humans as a whole are “fighting” against – even if they have no interest in us and go their way from throat to throat killing us without meaning to it (111-112).
Materiality, usually conceived as inert substance, should be rethought as a plethora of things that from assemblages of human and nonhuman actors (actants)-humans are but one force in a potentially unbounded network of forces (113).
★ The coronavirus epidemic can be seen as an assemblage of a (potentially) pathogenic viral mechanism, industrialized, agriculture, fast global economic development, cultural habits, exploding internal communication, and so on. The epidemic is a mixture in which natural, economic, and cultural processes are inextricably bound together . . . as humans, we are one among the actants in a complex assemblage; however, it is only and precisely as subjects that we are able to adopt the “inhuman view” from which we are (partially, at least) grasp the assemblage of which we are part” 117).

Someone asks me on Clubhouse today 👉🏻 “How do you grow your Instagram account?”
💁🏻♀️If only I get a dollar every time someone asks that question. Anyway, here’s my quick answer:
1️⃣ Know your NICHE - meaning who are you are speaking to. Who do you want to attract? It’s not about having every Tom, Dick and Harry following you, just to boost that number of followers.
Be specific. What type of woman needs your content? What’s her burning pain? Desire? Dream?
How are you the person she would look up to? Or relate to?
Every single post & story should be INTENTIONALLY speaking to your avatar. Solve her problems. You can start by nailing your bio and sharing a mix of educational + inspirational content that speaks to her specific problems.
2️⃣ WORK WITH the algorithm. Understand what Instagram wants and how your post could reach more people. Don’t try to trick the algorithm - you’ll alway be playing catch-up. Also, the algorithm is not out to screw you. It’s ensuring the best experience for all the users.
Study hashtags, Google trend, TikTok and YouTube to see what specific topics in your niche are trending. In short, what does your niche want to see?
3️⃣ Raise your personal BRAND. See what everyone else in your industry is doing? Now, go the other direction. Stand apart.
Instead of chasing your followers and brand deals, learn what would ATTRACT them to you. Trust me, it’s a much more fun game to play.😌
Put your blinders on and just do you. Find your voice & share your story. Stay in your own lane & focus your energy on clearing your mental space. That’s how you can be creative. And that includes unfollowing people who doesn’t add value to your consumption. (Pro-tip: You can mute them if you’re friends with them 😆)
PS: I’m working on an IG Growth Bootcamp for those who wants to grow on IG. I want you to make progress - so there will be a small fee. Drop me a DM if you’re interested!
👏🏻👏🏻 Now action time. Which of these can you implement right away! Comment and let’s chat!

It’s easy to get personal, hurt and offended when people deem you and your job as #nonessential. Artistes fall into the broader category of #artists, which refer to people whose work are involved with the arts. To come up tops with an overwhelming 70% is not a mean feat to begin with in the non-essential awards poll, albeit it being a generalised and simplified one in very testing times by the coronavirus! 😅 Not surprising, considering we need more scientists for the vaccine and mathematicians for the statistics, and we probably don’t need artists to paint a nicer picture for us now right? 😂
Simply put, you’re not top of the food chain, nor do you form the base of the pyramid, no problem with that. And one should not let one’s vanity and self-importance get in the way of the realisation that no one is indispensable in this world! 😨 Well, on a lighter note, it just means you’re put into the same group as #bubbletea, dramas and soap operas, cafes, holidays, as opposed to #toiletpaper, supermarkets, sanitisers and masks (in these times). You’re not common staple and basic daily necessities, you’re perhaps another level, you’re #luxurygoods (if that makes you feel any better about yourself). 🤣
Let us not take away the focus of the article which essentially, is to highlight the importance of and to show our appreciation to our #frontlineworkers in this time of the pandemic. 😊
Health, money, food, love, happiness, laughter, well-being. Can you say which is essential and which is non-essential? You could probably rate which is perhaps more or less essential but yet it’s subjective to person, time and place. A developed and mature society will begin to realise and appreciate the importance of #culture and #character, that it starts from #within and forms its very #basis. There’s #survival and livelihood, the bread and butter, day to day. And there’s also #life — the growth, meaning, significance, the #soul and #beauty of it. One cannot be devoid of the other. 😘
