小弟想從formality, frequency, 以及speaker's attitude & perspective來切入:
previous與former均可指時間或次序上的之前（應當沒有空間的用法）
ex: previous/former experience/ marriage/ relationship/ page/ day/ year/ job/
wife/ boss/ president/ owner....
差別就在於，當你使用former時，你想表達較正式的感覺，或是你對於被修飾詞
的重視、尊重
所以你才會覺得我上面所舉的例子，有些配起來好像很順，有些有點怪怪的
但是怪怪並不代錯誤，只是使用上頻率較少罷了
（這就是collocation的其中一個面向阿！有些字比較多人習慣用較正式、
較重視的態度去看他們；有些則否）
另外，常常在談到職位、身份、或位置時，我們會比較傾向用former，一方面很可能
也是與說話者的態度、觀點有關
ex: the former president/ owner/ husband....
請各位參考指教^^
