Student Address, National Taiwan University Commencement 2021
International student Seth Austin Harding from Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering
.
最後,我想送給大家「功夫熊貓」裡的一句台詞: "You just need to believe"。

President, professors, and classmates, I'm very honored to be here. Thank you to NTU for giving me this opportunity. My name's Seth Austin Harding, and I'm from the D.C. metropolitan area. I'm going to tell a real story that's personal but that's relatable and what I see as the real me.
What motivated and guided me to take my undergraduate studies in Taiwan? When I was very young, I really loved watching kung fu movies, and when I was 10 years old, I went to the theater to watch "Kung Fu Panda". This became my favorite movie as I felt like the story of the main character Po was one to which I could very much relate. After watching this movie, I decided that I wanted to start learning kung fu, so I went to the United States Wushu Academy. At the time, I began hearing Mandarin on a daily basis, so when I was in high school, I decided to begin formally studying Chinese. It ended up being my Chinese teacher from Taipei who was my favorite teacher who taught my favorite class, so I decided I'd hang out in the Chinese classroom every day and practice lots. By the time graduation came around, I had attained the highest proficiency in Chinese among any non-native speaker in my school. My second favorite class was computer science, and I ended up attaining among the best coding skills in my school. After getting accepted to the school of my dreams -- National Taiwan University -- I felt honored, humbled, and excited; I could now spend time at among the world's finest universities studying Chinese and at the same time advancing my knowledge of computer science.
But when I look back at my freshman year, to be honest with you, I didn't know what I was doing. Despite having taken very many Chinese classes, when I went to the NTU lectures, I understood only about half of what the teachers were saying. Contrary to most people's impressions of an American, I was actually too shy to raise my hand, to ask questions, or to even meet with teachers after class, so I had very few friends at the time. I started to become homesick and depressed. At that time, I found that basketball was the only way I knew of relieving my stress. However, while playing basketball, I had torn my ACL and it would take two surgeries and a year and a half in time to fully recover. At this point, I felt caught between a rock and a hard place. In fact, this was the lowest point of my life, and I didn't know what to do. I felt like my Chinese wasn't good enough, I had been diagnosed with insomnia and ADHD, and I felt like the math taught in America was too simple to allow for me to keep up with my classmates. I was under immense pressure, and at this time, I lost any sense of purpose or direction. Later on, I went to seek help from NTU counseling, from my psychiatrist, and from my department. I reached out to Professor Winston Hsu from CSIE, and he told me this: "Never give up"; it was such an oversimplified way to approach such a complex series of problems, I had thought. However, I pondered these words intensely for one week, and by the end of that week, I had made a firm decision. This would NOT be another example of me giving up. I decided to go all out, to work diligently and passionately on all tasks at hand. This was the turning point of my life; I started to discipline myself to a very high degree. At this time, I met my then-to-become advisors Professor Shih-Wei Liao and Professor Shih-Hao Hung and entered their labs to begin research. Finally, the passion that I had for computer science that I had previously held in high school was kindled again, and I was finally reminded why I loved this field. I began my research life in blockchain and AI, and at the time I entered the lab, I also began creating NTUAI. NTUAI is now a large and highly successful NTU club that is dedicated to the research and public understanding of AI. Welcome one and all to join us; please scan our QR code here.
For a year and a half I haven't returned to America because of covid. But not to worry; I have found my second home, away from home. I love it here in NTU and I cherish all of the things I've had the privilege to experience in Taiwan. I've gone through the most difficult of struggles in my life here, but I've also had the most fortunate and blessed of experiences. To conclude, I'd like to quote a line from "Kung Fu Panda": "You just need to believe". As long as you are willing to adopt an optimistic attitude in facing challenges and hardships, you may become a positive force in changing the lives of those around you as well as your own life. It all depends on how you view it; just like what Po's father says, "there is no secret ingredient. It's just you." Thank you, everyone.

【Origin Stories - Kass Monzon , Co-founder/CEO of Workbean AW#21】
I never anticipated becoming an entrepreneur. In fact I made every effort not to. My dad was an entrepreneur, and my brother ended up starting his own company as well. I wanted to do something different, chart my own path.
I dove head first into the corporate world, racking up logo and after logo in internships and early work experiences, eventually building up a pretty good career in sales. That eventually led me to a reputable multinational tech company based out of SG, where I became the youngest employee ever to take on the role of regional account manager.
I thought it was everything I wanted. But reality soon set in. In fact, I was miserable. The culture was the complete opposite of what I was expecting. It was extremely cutthroat, with no sense of inclusion or belonging. My work was constantly devalued despite hitting all my numbers, and whatever I did and no matter how much effort I put in, felt like it was never enough.
I ended up suffering from clinical depression. It was perhaps the lowest point in my life. But it also made me dig deep to really think about what it means to be happy at work, and how to properly educate yourself when looking for a job.
Not long after, I moved back to the PH to start Workbean. Two years in now and I’ve never looked back. There’s of course been many sleepless nights, and I’m constantly ripe with imposter syndrome, but hearing stories of job seekers finding their dream jobs, where they can learn, add value, and feel a sense of belonging has been a powerful driver to get me through the days.

Nearly a year we are struck by this whole pandemic. I remembered at the early months the fear and anguish of hearing a person being infected was just so gripping. Now just after a year with the increasing numbers people are a bit more laid back (look at the numbers of peeps at kenduris n pre mco 2.0 dinners).. but everything just turns sour again when shit hits the fan.. infact a surge of panic and chaos takes over.. everyone demands to know who or where the cause arises.. what category they fall in and how safe can it be to step back out .. the understanding towards handling such situation gets more complicated with added theories from forwarded group WhatsApp’s and he says she says ..
To me and my understanding is that this is the best time to use logic, common sense and the information provided by KKM. Life still needs to move on but with guide lines. Mask, sanitise, gloves even. If you feel bit unwell and you are uncertain isolate yourself and those with the virus did not wish for it so cut them some slack they do need support. They already gone thru quarantine and test.. they don’t need to be treated as a walking plague and honestly i don’t think they appreciate being named on each of your WhatsApp chat group... with all that said. I can’t wait to get back to work so let’s stay safe everyone and follow the given guidelines n measures

This clip is from: Joseph Prince—Following the Promptings of the Spirit (6 Dec 2020) @josephprince
Are you finding it tough to sense the leading of the Holy Spirit when making a decision? Or perhaps you've felt a prompting but aren't quite sure if that's Him or just your own mind talking.
We want to encourage you that being led by the Lord is not as mysterious or difficult as it seems! The Bible says that we hear our Shepherd's voice and we follow Him (see John 10:27). This means that just as a child naturally recognizes the voice of his or her parent, you will know when God is leading you somewhere. It's easy to overthink or over-analyze things and become even more confused than when you started. But as you trust the Holy Spirit to lead you restfully and with His peace, trust yourself also to know His prompting when you feel it. With time, the more you sense His voice and allow yourself to be led by it, the more familiar and natural it'll become to do life with the Holy Spirit!

Dear international friends, I’m Wang Ping Chung, the spokesperson for one of Taiwan’s political parties named New Party. Hearing on the WHO leader’s accusations of racist campaign from Taiwan, some of Taiwan’s politicians and overseas students denied his allegation and demanded for his apology. However, I think we must be honest.
Actually, there have been various attacks on Dr. Tedros from Taiwan’s netizens, especially racism abuse in insulting words like “negro,” “Chinese pig,” and “CCP’s dog.” Dr. Tedros never said Taiwan’s government organized racist campaign against him directly, but he claimed that Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry knew the campaign and did nothing to disassociate themselves.
It’s quiet difficult to understand how Taiwan’s government and society can permit and even encourage the racist campaign against the WHO leader, and keep pushing Taiwan to join WHO or WHA simultaneously. There’s also no reason why Taiwan’s government denies WHO’s demand, insisting on calling the disease “Wuhan virus” instead of “coronavirus,” and still calls for its membership of WHO.
Last year, the fact was found that Taiwan’s ruling party, DPP, had been hiring organized cyber warriors to attack their opponents and insult anyone they dislike, resulting in a Taiwan’s diplomat’s suicide. About two months ago, they started the racist campaign against the WHO leader with the same method, bringing this disgusting tactic from Taiwan’s domestic politics to international society.
Racial discrimination is undoubtedly anti-humanitarian. I feel quiet sorry for the campaign against Dr. Tedros, yet I’m unqualified to apologize to him on behalf of Taiwan. It’s really a shame for anyone from Taiwan who has any sense of justice.
