Today is International Women’s Day. To mark the occasion, The Women’s Foundation has launched a new campaign to mobilise support in putting an end to objectification and sexism in the workplace.
Those of you who don’t speak Cantonese may be surprised to know that the most commonly used term for a woman’s cleavage is 事業線 ‘career line’. This objectifies women and devalues their achievements by associating their success with their appearance rather than their talent, capabilities and drive.
To do this we have teamed up with some of Hong Kong’s most inspiring women, who shared their ‘real career line’ – and the qualities that helped drive their success. So please watch the video, and if you like it and agree with its message, share it. Then visit our website RealCareerLine.hk and use our online tool to show your support for equality and respect.
I’d like to end by giving a huge thank you to Stephanie Au, 畢明 budming, Teresa Ko, Janet Ma, Onyee Ng 吳安儀, Daisy Ngai, Stella, So Man Yee, 譚杏藍 Hana Tam, Ren Wan, Kay.la Wong and all our other ambassadors who couldn’t make the shoot, but whose videos we’ll be uploading in the days to come. Thank you for your time, generosity and effort. You’re an inspiration to us all and we are sure that there will be others who emerge in the course of the campaign who will inspire greater recognition of women’s true talents and capabilities.
