A teenager in Singapore has been detained under the country’s strict Internal Security Act (ISA) for plotting to kill Muslims in two mosques on the March 15 anniversary of the deadly 2019 Christchurch attacks, the government said on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old student, who is a Protestant Christian of Indian ethnicity, is the youngest to be detained under such laws, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) said in a statement, adding that the teenager, who was inspired by “far-right extremist ideology”, was detained last month.

Yesterday marked a significant anniversary few know about. 70 years ago, on 7 August 1951, Mr Lee Kuan Yew was called to the Singapore Bar. As a lawyer, he often represented trade unions pro bono. This paved the way for him to enter politics, and eventually become Singapore’s Founding Prime Minister.

As PM, Mr Lee took an active hand in creating a robust system of laws and an effective legal framework. Thanks to his efforts, today we enjoy the rule of law, and good law and order prevails in Singapore. – LHL

A letter sent by an industry group that includes the internet firms said companies are concerned that the planned rules to address doxing could put their staff at risk of criminal investigations or prosecutions related to what the firms’ users post online. Doxing refers to the practice of putting people’s personal information online so they can be harassed by others.

Hong Kong’s Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau in May proposed amendments to the city’s data-protection laws that it said were needed to combat doxing, a practice that was prevalent during 2019 protests in the city. The proposals call for punishments of up to 1 million Hong Kong dollars, the equivalent of about $128,800, and up to five years’ imprisonment.

“The only way to avoid these sanctions for technology companies would be to refrain from investing and offering the services in Hong Kong,” said the previously unreported June 25 letter from the Singapore-based Asia Internet Coalition, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

To show off my Mandarin skills, I decided to only speak Chinese for 24 hours to my wife and in-laws in Singapore. We normally only speak in English so this is a bit of a challenge for me. But I've been studying Chinese using duolingo and online tutor. It shouldn't be too difficult, right?
