Zu den ersten Ergebnissen des Kompositionsunterrichts Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys bei Carl Friedrich Zelter, dem Leiter der Berliner Singakademie, gehörte die Sonate für Violine und Klavier in f-Moll. Der stets sehr selbstkritische Mendelssohn erachtete sie als gut genug, um sie als sein Opus 4 drucken zu lassen. Mendelssohn verzichtet im Klavierpart auf konventionelle Begleitfloskeln; beide Instrumente finden in dieser Sonate zu schönem Ausgleich.

Für einen gemeinsamen Auftritt im Wiener Augarten am 24. Mai 1803 mit dem extravaganten Violinvirtuosen George Polgreen Bridgetower schrieb Ludwig van Beethoven seine berühmteste und wirkungsvollste Violinsonate op. 47. Mit ihr manifestierte er die besondere Rolle der Violine. Beethoven hat das Werk nach einem Zerwürfnis mit Bridgetower dem französischen Virtuosen Rodolphe Kreutzer gewidmet, der die Sonate allerdings nie gespielt haben soll.

Zu den Künstlerinnen:
Kathrin ten Hagen begeisterte Publikum und Fachpresse in zahlreichen Auftritten u.a. mit dem Deutschen Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, den Hamburger Symphonikern, der Kammersymphonie Leipzig, dem Staatlichen Symphonieorchester Moskau, dem Barock-Ensemble Boston und dem USC Symphony Orchestra.
Sie war als Donald Weilersteins Assistentin am New England Conservatory tätig und unterrichtete beim Young Artist Programm des Yellow Barn Festivals USA 2009 und 2010. 2015 bis 2017 war sie als Dozentin beim Euro Arts Festival in Halle tätig. Seit 2011 unterrichtet sie an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig im Hauptfach Violine.

Eva Sperl unterrichtet an der Hochschule Franz Liszt Weimar und hat an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig einen Lehrauftrag für Solorepetition inne. Hier betreut sie die Studenten der Violinklasse von Carolin Widmann.
Weiterhin übt sie eine rege Konzerttätigkeit sowohl als Kammermusikpartnerin vieler Instrumentalisten und Sänger, als auch als Solistin aus und ist dank ihres großen Repertoires und großen Einfühlungvermögens eine gefragte Begleiterin bei internationalen Wettbewerben und Sommerkursen, wie z.B. der International Summer Academy der Juilliard School New York und beim Euro Music Festival, jährlich veranstaltet von der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig und der Musikhochschule Köln in Halle/S.

Summer is here! Oh My Gosh, it’s so hot! But it feels good sweating under the blue skies.

My kid is done with school year. Gosh, it’s going to be a long summer!

Speaking of “long,” my hair is getting longer and longer. I need a haircut! But, Kim is all booked up. Kim is my hairdresser. She is a lovely lady. I adore her. And, she’s an excellent hairdresser. I made an appointment, but it’s not till the end of the month. Ahhh, I can’t wait!!

Let’s talk about what I’m reading right now. “Black Rain.” A novel by Masuji Ibuse. It’s about the WWII. And what happened to the people in Hiroshima and how their lives changed. So far, I’ve read about a quarter of the book. But, I’m already learning a lot, how the people's lives changed, and the differences between now and then.

Moving on! I’m enjoying learning Spanish on Duolingo so much! It’s fun. But at the same time, it’s so frustrating because I keep forgetting what I’ve just learned! Also, listening and speaking are so difficult! The other day, I watched this trailer. “In the Heights” coming out this summer. Some of them were speaking Spanish! So, I was so excited! But I couldn’t catch any words. I was disappointed with myself. Apparently, according to my husband who speaks very little Spanish, someone said “un cafe con leche (a coffee with milk).” He caught that, but I didn’t. I can understand it if it’s written on paper. But, when I was listening to it, I couldn’t catch even a single word, which was very frustrating! But, that’s part of learning a new language, right? So, I’m gonna keep learning. I’m gonna keep going. Never give up! Just take a baby step at a time!
