「Neat」って使ったことありますか？

あくまで個人的な経験ではありますが、これまで英語を勉強するたくさんの日本人と接してきたなかで、とても簡単且つネイティブも頻繁に単語であるにもかかわらず、ほとんど日本人が使っていなのでは？と思う単語の一つが「Neat」です。意味を知っている人は勿論、知らない人もぜひ意識して使ってみてください。

1) Neat
→「きちんとした / 整った」

基本的に“Neat”は「〜がきちんとしている」や「が整っている」などの意味として用いられます。綺麗に整理整頓された部屋を「neat room」、綺麗好きで几帳面な人を「neat person」、字が上手なことを「neat handwriting」などと表現するなど、とても汎用性の高い形容詞になります。その他、「巧妙な〜」や「巧みな〜」などの意味合いもあります。
✔“Neat freak”は「潔癖性」を意味します。
＜例文＞
Your house is beautiful! Everything is perfectly organized and neat.
（素敵な家だね！きっちり整理整頓されて完璧なレイアウトじゃん。）
Sean's suit is always neat and clean.
（ショーンさんはいつもきちんとしたスーツを着てるんだよね。）
That's a neat trick. How did you do that?
（巧妙なやり方だね。どうやってやったの？）

2) That's neat
→「いいね / 素敵だね」

「That's neat」は、「That's cool」や「That's awesome」と同様、「いいね」や「素敵だね」の意味として使われる相槌表現です。個人的な感覚にはなりますが、興味深いことに対し「へぇ〜、面白い」というニュアンスがあるように思います。
✔「That's neat」はちょっと古臭い表現で、若者の間では「That's cool/awesome」の方が一般的。
＜例文＞
You spent the last three years traveling the world? That's neat.
（この3年間、世界旅行してたんだって？いいね〜。）
You signed up to a kickboxing class? That's neat. How do you like it?
（キックボクシングのクラスに申し込んだんでしょ？いいじゃん！どんな感じ？）
It was a pretty neat restaurant. I'll take you there next time.
（いい感じのレストランだったよ。次回、連れて行ってあげるよ。）

1 year ago today, I went on a semester long exchange to study at Korea's Sungkyunkwan University #성균관대학교 for Fall 2020. 🇰🇷It was truly an exchange journey that really changed my life. I still can't help to think back to all of the amazing people that I met on this exchange, all of the awesome adventures exploring Korea, making the best out of every day in the 5 months that I was there for. That's why I selected A to Z of my favourite memories from August to January to show you guys why going on exchange can be so life-changing and it is definitely the best decision that I have made! The second collaboration piece with @呉竹Kuretake , this time painted using their Kuretake Gansai Tambi 48 "顔彩耽美" colors set! This was an exciting challenge to try - I want to get better at painting trees and especially thick forest-like scenes like this one. This picture had only really light underdrawing and no lines.

- Waterford White 300g/m cold pressed paper.
This is also my entry to the #worldwatercolormonth2021 ! I will not be doing all the prompts, but let's say that this piece is for the "breathe" prompt.
We were recently able to go to a Japanese garden that's located really close to our house. It was temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but it opened when the stricter rules were lifted (now, if you want to go, you have to reserve a ticket - this prevents crowds.) On the day we went, it rained a lot in the morning - we had an excellent storm for the first time this summer - so the green of the plants was intensive! I took a lot of photos and tried my best to recreate this humid and green atmosphere.
