Learning from the Destruction of Sodom
“and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked (for that righteous man dwelling among them, was tormented in his righteous soul from day to day with seeing and hearing lawless deeds):” (2 Peter 2:6-8 WEB)
The apostle Peter wrote that Abraham’s nephew, Lot, was righteous. By this, we know that he is saved and that he got saved because he had faith in Yahweh.
However, Lot’s end was tragic. He escaped from Sodom with no possessions except for the clothes on his back, his wife, and his two daughters.
On the way out of the city, his wife turned back after being told not to, and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Afterwards, Lot settled in a cave because of fear.
“When God destroyed the cities of the plain, God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot lived. Lot went up out of Zoar, and lived in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to live in Zoar. He lived in a cave with his two daughters. The firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in to us in the way of all the earth. Come, let’s make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve our father’s family line.” They made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father. He didn’t know when she lay down, nor when she arose. It came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine again, tonight. You go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve our father’s family line. ” They made their father drink wine that night also. The younger went and lay with him. He didn’t know when she lay down, nor when she got up. Thus both of Lot’s daughters were with child by their father.” (Genesis 19:29-36 WEB)
Seeing the scale of destruction, Lot’s two daughters thought that the whole world was destroyed and that there were no other men left, so they proceeded to make Lot drunk with alcohol, and slept with him to bear children. After that traumatic experience, all they could think about was sleeping with a man!
This was a righteous man’s ending because he chose to live a worldly life.
This all began because Lot decided to walk by sight. Abraham and Lot’s flocks had grown so much that they could not live together anymore. When Abraham asked Lot to choose where to separate himself to, Lot chose based on what he saw, without praying to ask for God’s counsel—he was walking by sight.
“Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar. So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.” (Genesis 13:10-11 WEB)
We learn from the Book of Proverbs that there is a way that seems right to a man, but it only leads to death.
“There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” (Proverbs 14:12 WEB)
From then on, righteous Lot was tormented in his soul (mind, will, and emotions) every day from seeing and hearing the wickedness of the people in Sodom.
Not only him, but his family was exposed to this worldliness daily as well.
We who are born-again will feel this tormented soul state even more so than Lot because we have the Holy Spirit inside us. Our born-again spirit hates what is evil and loves what is good.
This is why if genuine Christians fall into sin, they will hate it and want to be delivered from sinful habits and lifestyles.
Lot’s wife turned back to Sodom because her heart was full of the world. Her treasures were in that city. When she looked back after the angels told her not to, it revealed that she was not really saved (she had no faith in Yahweh).
The wicked ways of Sodom had also rubbed off on Lot’s daughters. They learned to make their father drunk and do something as vile as committing incest with their father.
All these tragedies happened because Lot chose to put himself and his family in a worldly environment, without leaving Sodom before its destruction. He failed as the head of the house.
Worldliness will ruin Christians and cause them to live defeated lives. They stop reading God’s word and praying, and instead use all their time and effort to pursue what the world runs after, only rushing towards their destruction. Unnecessary hurts and suffering are sure to come.
What example are you setting for your family? Are your daily habits leading them closer to God’s ways, or drawing them away from His ways and towards the world instead?
“Now he who plants and he who waters are the same, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor...For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ. But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or stubble; each man’s work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man’s work is. If any man’s work remains which he built on it, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, but as through fire.” (1 Corinthians 3:8, 11-15 WEB)
Are you focusing on earthly things like “gold, silver, costly stones”, or is your heart on the things of God which are heavenly?
When the time comes for you to stand before Jesus’ throne, don’t be like Lot who escaped with nothing but his life. Lot’s works were all burnt up, and he got out of the city with nothing, like he lived his whole live in vain.
When the day comes for your eternal rewards to be measured, I hope that you will be happy with the way you invested your time in this life. When you build your life upon the foundation of Jesus Christ, with the Gospel and its advancement as your chief goal, there is no way you will be shortchanged on ‘awards day’.
What is the point of chasing foolish things in this lifetime only to end up with nothing that lasts forever, as if you are saved through fire with all your works burnt up? Be wise—walk by faith, not by sight. God’s word is true.
Judgment day for Christians is nothing to be afraid of. In fact, it is a day for receiving eternal rewards. How do you maximize your rewards, identify your God-given calling in life, and step into that to enjoy a worthy life? I share a whole book about that in “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”.
This was the first book I wrote, and it is full of revelation about our eternal rewards which are hardly taught about in pulpits today (I’ve never heard anyone preaching this): http://bit.ly/sandcastlesdontlastforever

The Holy Spirit showed me something powerful! He said that when you are standing far off from God’s throne, all you see is His holiness and glory—the flaming appearance of God, the brilliant light, the angels and four living creatures, the twenty four elders around His throne, the emerald halo, the sea of glass, the flashing lightnings, the seven fires of the Spirit.
“Immediately I was in the Spirit. Behold, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne that looked like a jasper stone and a sardius. There was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald to look at. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones. On the thrones were twenty-four elders sitting, dressed in white garments, with crowns of gold on their heads. Out of the throne proceed lightnings, sounds, and thunders. There were seven lamps of fire burning before his throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Before the throne was something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal. In the middle of the throne, and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes before and behind. The first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like a man, and the fourth was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within. They have no rest day and night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come!”” (Revelation 4:2-8 WEB)
But when you go close to Abba God’s face, you will see through all that, and see Him smiling at you. He will hug you who are His precious child. You cannot know that you are loved unless you boldly approach the throne of Grace!
“Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 WEB)
Do you feel that God is so unapproachable, that if you go near His light, it will expose all your sins and you will receive punishment?
I know the feeling of self-condemnation. I had it when I was a new Christian almost a decade ago, when I had misunderstandings about the meaning of God’s word—specifically in the four gospels.
I remember reading things like “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out,” and feeling like I was doomed. How terrible it is to live under self-condemnation and fear of judgment due to wrong believing.
God has been faithful and increased my understanding of His word. Come and study the four gospels with me through the lens of grace, passage by passage, chapter by chapter, and be set free from the bondage of wrong teachings that make you feel afraid and condemned: https://bit.ly/understandeveryparable

Adam, the first man, broke God’s command by eating from the tree that he was told not to eat from. Adam was originally appointed as the ruler of the earth, so when he sinned, his entire kingdom (the whole earth and its inhabitants) fell with him.
The devil came in the form of a serpent and tricked Adam’s wife Eve into eat from the tree, and Adam ate after being offered the fruit by Eve.
By heeding the devil’s temptation, the rulership of the earth was handed to him (Satan), and death came into the world because of Adam’s sin.
Ever since then, every man and woman was born with sin that is inherited from Adam, passed down via the genes. Man was in a desperate condition, cut off from God because of sin.
God loves mankind and doesn’t want man to perish in their sins.
Thankfully, the Son of God willingly chose to lay aside His divine glory and submitted to God the Father’s will.
He was born of a virgin, as a Man and named “Jesus”.
He grew up in obscurity, and at the age of thirty, began a public ministry of miracle healing, casting out demons, opening the eyes of the blind and making the deaf hear. He went about doing good in the power of the Holy Spirit, proving that He was God’s anointed one (the Christ).
After three and a half years later, Jesus was falsely accused of blasphemy and whipped until He was bleeding profusely from His body. He was subsequently sentenced to death by crucifixion, and had to carry a heavy cross to a place called Golgotha on Mount Moriah, and He was crucified there.
God the Father placed all the sins of the world throughout time upon Jesus, and unleashed the fire of God’s wrath as a punishment for all those sins He carried. Jesus was punished as if He were the worst sinner in existence.
For three hours starting from noon, darkness came upon the whole land, reflecting what was going on in the spiritual realm. Jesus hung there, being drained of His precious lifeblood for our sakes, and He endured every trace of punishment for our sins.
When every sin had been punished, Jesus cried out, “It is finished!” He gave up His spirit after completing His mission of being the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sins, and entrusted Himself into the Father’s hands.
Jesus’ body was buried in the tomb of a rich man, and the tomb was then heavily guarded by Roman soldiers and even sealed by the huge stone. This was to ensure that no one would steal Jesus’ body and claim that He had resurrected.
On the third day after His death, Jesus rose from the dead early at the break of dawn, and walked out of the tomb, phasing through the huge stone. He proved that He was a perfect, unblemished sacrifice, and death had no claim over Him (death can only fasten on a sinner because the wages of sin is death).
He appeared to His disciples and many others—multiple hundreds of people, before ascending to Heaven forty days later, and He sat down at the right hand of the Father, far above all principalities and powers.
Jesus was bestowed with the name that is above every name because He who is the King of all creation humbled Himself so low, even to the death of the cross, restoring what He did not lose.
This same Jesus who lives by an everlasting life and who will never die again, invites you to freely receive the gift of salvation from Him if you haven’t done so.
As the only begotten Son of God, the blood that Jesus shed for you is an overpayment for your sin debt which you owe God.
Just by believing and confessing Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, all your record of sins will be wiped clean by His precious blood, and you will be adopted as a royal priest in God’s family.
This forgiveness of sins comes through an everlasting agreement God has made through Jesus, called the “New Covenant of Grace”.
When you agree to be under Grace, you will become God’s beloved child, favored, blessed with every blessing, and an heir with an inheritance to receive and enjoy now, and in the eternal ages to come.
If you are ready to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior and enjoy true happiness with a quality of life called eternal life, just speak this prayer whenever you are ready:
“Dear Jesus Christ, I receive You as my Lord and Savior. I believe that You carried my sins as you hung on the cross and that you were punished by the Father for them. You were buried, and then you rose again on the third day as a proclamation that all my sins have been perfectly forgiven. I believe that I am now a child of God, forever saved, and greatly blessed because of Your precious blood that has cleansed me. Baptize me with Your Holy Spirit, clothe me with Your power from Heaven, and use my life for Your glory from now on. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen!”
If you prayed that, congrats! You are now born-again into God’s family and you are saved. Can I recommend that you like and follow this page and read my daily posts to help you grow in knowledge of what has happened to you and the rich inheritance you have in Christ?

Vince's passing in The Limelight Years inspired me to complete his last work - a song he was only able to sing a part of on his deathbed. This is what I imagine he would've wanted to say to his mother. From me and Vince to Ms. Liza Wang and all the wonderful mothers out there.
I also hope this will shed a bit of light on life from the perspective of Vince and others suffering from Dementia. #Haven

In and out of dreams
Searching for an answer
Who was I meant to be
worlds apart from here?
Longing for the day
In fear of endless night
Save this lonely heart of mine
When I could not hear
you taught my heart to listen
Songs of hope filled my soul
Long before you’d sung them
Learning like a child
To see with eyes wide open
Born again through faith and endless love
After all these years
You still stand here right beside me
Not a moment of regret
For giving me this promise
Never letting go
Through the rain and stormy weather
In your love I’ve finally found
My shelter
With a love so strong
Choices made so sacred
Who can judge right or wrong?
Seems no longer matter
When our lives are through
The heavens as our witness
Every step worth taking was with you
After all these years
You still stand here right beside me
Not a moment of regret
For giving me this promise
Never letting go
Through the rain and stormy weather
In your love I’ve finally found
My shelter
After all these years
While you stood here right beside me
How I longed to give you back
All the love that I’d been hiding
Thank you for the tears
Every drop you shed in waiting
In your arms I’ve finally found
My haven
