Tell you about all the features and benefits and pressure you into buying by using high-pressure closing techniques.

And today, there are still people that sell like this.

You can guess what their business looks like though.

These days, people want connection and to feel understood.

And you can’t understand your prospect without asking them carefully worded questions.

Sales is more about listening...

And figuring out their pains and motivations for buying...

Then matching those needs with your product or service, if you can solve their problem.

(For some context, I saw this at the time when a lot of blatantly racist things were circulating in the media. I don’t know these two men, and I’ve put a painting filter over it to obscure their identities.)

When I saw this image, I thought of how Singaporeans support each other. Here, no one was “helping” the other one out. No one was getting “special treatment”. I feel like when we talk about things like racism, sexism, classism, ableism, etc. There is a sentiment of, “All of us face problems, all of us struggle, why do “they” get “special treatment” and we don’t?” The mere suggestion of any Majority Privilege provokes really strong reactions.

But, actually, is it a “privilege” to not have to bend over backwards trying to express your discomfort whilst also having to protect the feelings of the other person causing the discomfort for fear of retaliation? Is it a “privilege” to be able to point out an objective disadvantage/unfairness without being accused of playing the victim? Or is it a disadvantage when a group of people can’t because of a certain characteristic they have? Certainly not in the same way the majority can. Shouldn’t everyone be able to do that in a safe and healthy community?

It’s not clear in the photo but it was actually raining pretty heavily. When it comes to things like racism, as the Majority race, our umbrella blocks those things for us, so if our fellow Singaporeans tell us they are hurting, use our umbrella; listen, validate, empathise. If we don’t understand, google, figure out why we don’t understand it. Don’t ask them to do the work for us.

The thing is a lot of us have probably experienced this on some level, perhaps with a certain type of boss, with a partner who doesn’t empathise, in a friend group where you have to walk on eggshells, perhaps with a teacher who gives you a hard time for raising a totally valid question. Wasn’t it important to have someone who understood and did something? ☔

Some of those riding at the front of the current exercise mechanics bandwagon glamourise things being black and white. They’re the same mouths that not long ago called certain movements “THE 5 BEST exercises” and labelled everything else as horseshit. The instagram audience and algorithms love it.

It encourages students to look to biomechanics education for definitive guidelines and protocols, like the arbitrary ones they were taught in their basic certifications.

I can see why people are drawn to exercise mechanics - it’s the reason why I took engineering at university and not a subject where someone’s opinion decided my grade. I liked the assurance of knowing there are basic laws of science and thus every mechanics question has a right & wrong answer...

... except, while forces and angles and moment arms and lever arms and friction are all very well understood mechanics principles (well, by those who actually understand them), the application of them is in the human body which has wild variance. Yes, we are all similar from a general perspective, but humans are like models of cars being produced with a very large factor of error, and the brain operating them has a “use whatever it takes” or “do whatever is easiest” autopilot 🛩

Even if an exercise setup makes a machine say it somehow isolates the upper third distal fibres of the lateral head of muscle X by an extra 13.7% compared with when done at a 86.1 degrees, they’ve got to be dreaming if they think that has any relevance to someone else’s structure and execution, let alone that they could find me an everyday client to whom it matters.

It’s why the RTS ethos is so focused on “client-defined exercise”. The person in front of you holds all the answers to how to train them - the key is just having the knowledge to know how to interpret what they’re telling you needs working on and how to use the resistance manipulation options afforded to us by the existence of mass and gravity to help them accordingly.

Learn the sound scientific principles as deeply as possible and then embrace the fact that every time you look to apply them the circumstances will be different and they might almost feel “wrong”.

讓每個人正視生活中，不論家庭、同儕或是社會，
我們都有可能不分性別、性傾向而遭受到性暴力，
卻不曉得該如何呼救，或是如何伸出援手。
此次遊行期許讓更多人重視這個議題，
重視身邊可能一直被我們忽略的傷害，

This is our third year at Taichung Pride.
In 2017 we were on the stage advocating for marriage equality
In 2018 we were promoting ways to vote for queer rights in the referendum
In May 2019 laws were passed for same sex marriage, we moved a step ahead

Think about gender equity education, parenting rights, non-national couples
The queer population wants to be understood
We want to live freely as our true selves

The theme for 8th Taichung Pride in year 2019 is #MeToo
It brings our focus to the hidden sexual violence happening in the society
It can happen to anyone, any gender, any sexual orientation
We may not know how to seek help, or how to help others
The organizers of this year’s Pride want to help us understand this a bit more
So that we can identify what is not acceptable

I was chatting with some friends about the Budget 2016 tabled recently and was surprised most of them (including some financial dudes and entrepreneurs) either had not read about it or it did not interest them. Most of them thought the Budget was just about the GST and BR1M. This led me to see what the man on the street felt about the Budget and how many actually understood it or knew what it was about.

岸和田城
岸和田城（きしわだじょう）は、大阪府岸和田市岸城町にある城。大阪府指定史跡。別名・千亀利城（ちきりじょう）。
概要

和田高家の創建当初は、現在の岸和田城跡から約500m東にあったといわれており、現在の城跡付近には古城という地名が残っている。その後、羽柴秀吉の紀州征伐の拠点として再築城され、その急ごしらえで造られていたものを、小出秀政が5重天守を上げる本格的な構えとした。

松平康重の代に総構えと城下が整備され、岡部宣勝の頃、城の東側に2重、西側に1重の外堀と寺町が増築されている。文政10年（1827年）に天守を焼失。以降再建されないまま、明治4年（1871年）に廃城とされ、まもなく破却された。

猪伏山（いぶせやま）と呼ばれた小高い丘の上にあり、本丸と二の丸を合せた形が、機の縦糸を巻く器具「縢」（ちきり）に似ていることから蟄亀利城（後に千亀利城）と呼ばれるようになった。城内にある岸城神社は千亀利と「契り」とをかけて、縁結びの宮として知られている。

天守

天守は、付櫓を付属させる複合式と呼ばれるもので、板張りの壁面であったと見られている。正保年間に幕府へ提出された泉州岸和田城図、いわゆる正保城絵図では、層塔型で板張りの天守が描かれている。元和5年（1619年）に改修または組み換え等の改変を受けたといわれており、それ以前の天守に関しては詳しく分かっていない
犬走り

現存する内堀石垣の下部に周堤帯が存在する。これを犬走りと呼ぶ。城の防衛という見地から見ると非常に不利であり、なぜこのような構造にされたかはわかっていない。脆い泉州砂岩で造られた石垣が崩れるのを防ぐためという説が有力である。

Outline

The creation of a Wada high house is said it was in about 500m east from present Kishiwada ruins of a castle, and, at first, remains in the present vicinity of ruins of a castle the name of a place of old castle. Afterwards, the one that was fortified again as a base of state subjugation of Washiba Hideyoshi, and had made from the building hurriedly was assumed to be a real posture to which Koide Matsrigot raised five pile Temmamo.

A total posture and the castle under is maintained to Matsudaira ....Yasushi.. ..heavy.. drinking.. Cawa, and the temple town is extended to double and the west side with the outside moat of one pile on the east side of the castle at Okabe Senca. It is ..Temmamo.. burnt down in 1827 (1827). It was made to the abolition castle without being rebuilt at the following in 1871(1871), and Yab was done soon.

It came to be called turtle profit castle (It is a profit turtle profit castle in the back) from its resemblance to apparatus Inoshishifyama ("" (Only :) in which it was on the slightly elevated hill that was called), and shape to suit the castle proper to Maru of two rolled the warp of the machine. The shore castle Shinto shrine in the castle is known as Imperial prince of the marriage putting 1000 Cameki and "Pledge".

Temmamo

It is thought that Temmamo was the one that is called a compound type that is attached of the applying tower, and a wall in the board fence. In fountain state Kishiwada castle chart submitted to the shogunate in Satamo year, so-called the Satamoshiro drawing, Temmamo of the board fence is drawn by the Soutou type. It is said that the modifications such as the repair or union and changing in 1619 (1619) were received, and is a scarcement that doesn't understand in detail for former heaven Mamoru.
