Hey guys, I moved out actually a couple of weeks ago (2017), but here's the apartment I was living in for two months. I was able to rent this apartment in Tokyo, Japan via company named 'Fontana' or 'Tokyo City Apartments'. As most non-Japanese know, renting an apartment in Japan can be very difficult and requires a lot of money upfront. Here I found it to be simple straight forward, and the only requirement was having a monthly rent payment + a deposit that later on you receive back upon leaving the apartment.
It was cosy and did it's purpose as giving me my own space. I liked how they have furniture included, so you can move in straight away and just add bits and bobs that will make it homely to you.
Hope this helps a little, there are plenty of other companies as well that do monthly rent for foreigners. They are more pricey than your average two year contracts, but it is less of a hassle
