The Ultimate Purpose of Life

“This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.” (Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:13-14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The person who wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes is the richest and wisest mortal man in history: King Solomon.

After sharing all his wisdom, his conclusion is this: our whole duty is to fear God (worship Him with reverential awe) and keep His commandments (to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to love one another as Christ loved us).

“Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you; even as you gave him authority over all flesh, he will give eternal life to all whom you have given him. This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” (John‬ ‭17:1-3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

If you have been wondering, this is the purpose for which we were born: to know Abba God and Jesus Christ.

Not just in the mind, but to know God experientially, intuitively, and eventually face-to-face.

There will be a time of judgment in the future, but for a believer, there is no sentence of condemnation because our evil works have already been judged in Jesus’ body at the cross. He endured the fiery wrath of God on our behalf.

All that is left for us is to receive the rewards for both open and hidden good works done for Christ.

If you live your life keeping the Grace commandments—basically a life of leaning on God’s love and sharing that love with others, you will be greatly rewarded when it is time to stand before Jesus’ throne.

Wait, what? We get spared for all the evil deeds that we do and get rewarded for all the good works done by using the grace that God first gave to us? Yes, it sounds way too good to be true, but it is the truth.

Most believers have no idea what God’s rewards are. They know of blessings, but when it comes to rewards, it is hardly taught about. The common misconception is to mix up blessings and rewards—but these two are different.

Blessings were paid for by Jesus’ blood at the cross, and God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Heaven. On the other hand, rewards are still with Jesus in Heaven. He said that His reward is with Him—we will only receive them after He comes again.

Tip No. 41: You know those quirky little things you do and think? Collect them in a file or on paper. Even if you’re a storyteller, you can use these as details to add depth and distinction to your jokes.

Tip No. 45: Don’t Hoard Jokes
Don’t worry about “burning” material on a special or album. Hoarding jokes may signal to your brain that you’re out of ideas. “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou.

Gary’s thoughts on Tip No. 45: This attitude has been crucial to an unprecedented streak of creativity over the last two years. I’ve written four hours of material, which is almost as much as I wrote in my first 23 years of comedy. Most important has been my health, this idea may be second.

Tip No. 62: Look for inspiration everywhere. Paintings, music, poetry, rap, novels, nonfiction, short stories, theater, philosophy, etc. can all provide a spark for creativity. Cross-pollinate your work with broad influences and watch your creativity grow.

Tip No. 90: After a Good Set, Brainstorm
You just had a great set. Instead of celebrating, use that hour or so after when the synapses are still firing and your confidence is soaring to voice record or write down the ideas that pop up during that especially fertile creative time.
如果你剛完成一場精采的表演，不用太早慶祝，要在大腦突觸仍在觸發、信心爆發、靈感特別豐腴的創作時間裡，把突然出現的想法錄音或寫下，再多花一個小時左右的時間繼續創作吧。

Tip No. 92: Notice where you do your best thinking. The shower? Running? Listening to music? Not listening to music? Driving? Walking? Make sure to put yourself in the places where you’re doing your best thinking as frequently as possible.

Tip No. 157: Need new joke ideas? Be sensitive. If you’re uncomfortable with that word, use “irritable” (or grow up). A lot of good comedy comes from reaction to injustice or discomfort large and small, which requires being hypersensitive to those feelings.

Tip No. 285: Explore unusual angles in a joke. Example: Examine things from the POV of a child or an Expert. My man Jimmy P and I still laugh over his “Martian response to high school football practice: Why are the hard-heads (players) taking orders from the small soft-heads (coach)?”

Tip No. 310: When it comes to solving the puzzles that are our jokes, draw on every area of knowledge, expertise, and talent. It’s so gratifying to use a fact, a lesson, or a memory from elementary school, high school, or elsewhere to fill in the joke.

Tip No. 311: Some of your best ideas will come to you in the shower. There’s science behind why it happens. Get a shower notepad if you have trouble remembering your ideas. Don’t listen to music. Listen to your thoughts. Ruminate on tonight’s set or a new joke.

對於電影中的真實情感，無論是喜悅、感傷還是愛戀，都用音樂來傳遞。
開頭帶著有點沙啞的男聲，用音高的差別來象徵著男女對唱。
Shallow是一首非常安靜的歌曲，這次用小提琴弦樂表現，
對於夢想的追求，以及迷茫後再次尋回，希望這樣的表現是動人貼近人心的。

Here comes my weekly updated cover.

I spent an hour recording the first sentence of my Shallow cover.
It took me lots of time to compose myself and to absorb into the emotions in the movie.
For the true emotions in the movie, whether it is joy, sentimental or love, it is told by music.
With the hoarse male voice in the first part, I tried to symbolize the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s singing through the different low and high pitches.

Shallow is a very quiet song, and I hope you all like my violin cover.
It’s about pursuit of your dreams, and finding it again after being confused.
Hope my violin is touching everyone’s hearts.
