🌻EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP 🌝
If you are looking for an interesting and fun activity to join during the rainy season, or simply want to hideaway from the busy city for a while, come and join us at our special embroidery workshop by To To Vo and Away Studio. During each session, we will guide you through making basic embroidery stitches including chain stitch, blanket stitch, bullion stitch, running stitch, satin stitch and so on which are easy to apply to everyday items such as shirts, pillows, tote bags. You can also prepare some patterns that you want to embroider in advance.
This workshop will take place in two sessions with three hours per session. There are two time frames available for you to join. We will prepare all embroidery materials including embroidery hoops, needles, colour threads, cloths, and scissors. Just bring your excitement and creativity to our workshop!

Khi nào cần gấp đôi phụ âm?
Khi thêm đuôi –ing, có một số động từ ta phải nhân đôi phụ âm cuối, một số động từ khác lại không. Tại sao lại như vậy và làm thế nào để biết khi nào phải nhân đôi và khi nào không cần nhân?
Đây cũng là thắc mắc của rất nhiều bạn khi bắt đầu làm quen với tiếng Anh. Chúng ta hãy cùng quan sát các từ sau:
Slide – sliding; smile – smiling; hope – hoping
Điều cần nói trong các ví dụ này là các phụ âm không đứng cuối cùng trong động từ. Tất cả các động từ này, và còn nhiều động từ khác nữa, khi ở dạng nguyên thể kết thúc bằng chữ cái –e. Khi đó, ta bỏ -e và thêm –ing.
I’m hoping to see her on Thursday. I hope she’s feeling better by then. (Tôi hy vọng sẽ gặp cô ấy vào thứ năm. Tôi mong là khi đó cô ấy cảm thấy khỏe hơn rồi).
Keep smiling! If you can smile in spite of your illness, you’ll win through. (Hãy luôn mỉm cười! Nếu bạn có thể cười mặc dù bạn đang ốm, bạn sẽ khỏe lại.)

Lưu ý rằng nếu các động từ kết thúc bởi –ee, thì chữ -e cuối cùng không bị bỏ đi khi thêm –ing:
I could see you standing there on the thin ice. Seeing you standing there made me nervous. (Mẹ có thể thấy con đang đứng đó trên lớp băng mỏng. Nhìn con đứng đó mẹ lo quá).
Agreeing a date for our March meeting proved impossible. We had to agree not to meet in March. (Có vẻ như không thể nhất trí một ngày cho buổi họp mặt của chúng ta vào tháng 3. Ta phải đồng ý không gặp vào tháng 3 nữa).
Slide – sliding; slip – slipping; sleep – sleeping
Nếu chúng ta slip (trượt chân) (trên mặt băng – tức là vô tình bị trượt chân) chứ không phải slide (trượt băng), thì phụ âm cuối được nhân đôi khi thêm –ing. Như vậy là bởi vì phụ âm đó đứng ở cuối từ và trước nó là một chữ nguyên âm và một nguyên âm ngắn. Nếu như có hai chữ nguyên âm và một nguyên âm dài, như trong từ sleep / sleeping, thì phụ âm cuối không được nhân đôi:
I’m just slipping out for a coffee. Do you want some? – Don’t bother. I’m going to slip out myself for some fresh air. (Mình chạy ra ngoài một chút mua café bây giờ. Cậu có muốn mua không? – Không cần đâu. Mình cũng định ra ngoài hít thở không khí một chút).
She was sleeping on the floor by the coffee machine. (Cô ấy đang ngủ trên sàn nhà bên cạnh cái máy pha cafe.)
b > bb; d > dd; g > gg; l > ll; m > mm; n >nn; p > pp; r > rr; t > tt
Đây là những phụ âm cuối được nhân đôi khi thêm –ing. Và không chỉ khi thêm –ing, các phụ âm này được nhân đôi khi đứng trước bất cứ đuôi nào bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm, ví dụ như trong thì quá khứ đơn giản hoặc quá khứ phân từ kết thúc bở -ed và trong so sánh hơn và so sánh nhất có đuôi –er hoặc –est. Pack – packing, climb – climbing
Lưu ý rằng các động từ kết thúc với phụ âm đôi, ví dụ pack – packing, climb – climbing, không hề bị ảnh hưởng gì. Tương tự như vậy với các động từ dài hơn và kết thúc bởi âm tiết không đánh trọng âm, ví dụ: visit – visting, offer – offering (chú ý travel – traveling là một trường hợp ngoại lệ.
Panic – panicking
Các động từ kết thúc bởi –c chuyển sang –ck trước khi thêm –ing (hoặc các đuôi khác)
It’s important not to panic if you lose your way. Panicking will only make matters worse. (Quan trọng là khi lạc đường không được hoảng hốt. Hoảng hốt chỉ làm mọi việc tồi tệ hơn).
Write – writing – written; bite – biting – bitten
Với hai động từ này, lưu ý các nguyên âm chuyển từ dài sang ngắn và nhân đôi phụ âm khi ở quá khứ phân từ:
I’ve been bitten by your dog! – That’s impossible. My dog never bites anyone. (Tôi vừa bị chó nhà chị cắn! – Không thể thế được. Chó nhà tôi không bao giờ cắn ai).
I’m writing to say I’m sorry about the dog bite. I should have written earlier. (Tôi viết thư để xin lỗi về chuyện con chó nhà tôi cắn ông. Lẽ ra tôi nên viết sớm hơn)
