Every October, the Hong Kong Cancer Fund Pink Revolution organizes a series of events to support International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I know I have supported for a couple years now.
This year’s key message is “Be Smart. Self-check.” which encourages all women to carry out regular self-checks because early detection can save lives.
15 Pink Sponsors have joined forces with the Hong Kong Cancer Fund to donate a percentage of their sales to support the organization’s free breast cancer services. Specially designed pink items are available across all categories including lifestyle, fashion, beauty, travel and dining. By purchasing these exclusive items, we can contribute to this noble cause, while showing our support to women with breast cancer.
For example, with the purchase of these pink ECCO Flexure T Cap Sneakers I am wearing, the brand will donate HK$50 to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund!
Amazing, right? Get something pink you love by October 31st to put in your contributions 💝

It’s breast cancer awareness month and Ella Grace has been coming w me to some events and been wanting to wear a pink ribbon herself. How do we broach this subject with her? Here are some tips to teaching little ones about awareness:
1. BE HONEST
Be as honest as possible with the subject. It’s okay to talk about death or sickness, while uncomfortable, in the long run, it equips and empowers them to deal with adversity at any stage. The best part, they face it trusting that mama has her back and that she can count on me to always be honest w her.
2. AGE-APPROPRIATE
While you don’t want to sugar-coat or hide things from them, it’s important to break it down for them in a way that they can grasp and understand. Give them information but don’t drown them in the details. Simple, easy, sentences and concepts.
“Men and women get breast cancer”
“Cancer makes you very sick”
“Finding it when it’s still small makes it easier to fight it”
3. EMPOWER
The most important lesson in awareness (or anything really) is letting your little one take ownership over it. What can you do about it? What would you like to do about it? I wanted to start broaching and normalizing the idea of breast checks for her. That it was part of her responsibility as she grew into a woman. I showed her the chart and the kind of things I was looking for. My why and how early detection saves lives. And finally, also why I wear a ribbon to remind others.
It’s been beautiful to watch her explain to others why she wears a pin in her own little four year old way. While they won’t necessarily listen to a grown woman lecturing about breast checks, a little big girl passionately educating and empowering others is a whole other different ball game. Let your little one take ownership and to discover their own causes.
Remember always, that they are their own little people too and the best way for a lesson to stick is if they make it theirs.
My job as a mama and a specialist is just to give her the tools.
How do I set her up for success and knowledge?
