Just like fast food, negativity often tastes good for a short moment, but it will make you unhealthy in the long run. And Mental weight? It is the hardest to lose.
If you constantly stick with a group of people who only wants to stay in their comfort zone and constantly criticise people who work hard for self-improvement, it’s NO surprise that you’ll find yourself stuck in a negative state for years.
Yes, it is okay to let loose and enjoy your favourite show from time to time. But if you find yourself trapped in an loop of binge-watching meaningless videos for hours and hours, it is time to break free and READJUST your Mental Diet.
If your goal is to have a healthier mind, start by removing all the JUNK from your Mental Diet.🤗
It took me some time to realise this, but it is okay to leave people, things, habits behind, if all they do is holding you back. Your Mental Diet determines your Mental Health. And your Mental Health decides your future.

上週辦了一場《設計你的小習慣》讀書會,我在整理導讀簡報時,想先提醒參與的夥伴一件事:類似這種以「自我提升」為主題的書,光是讀過可以說一點用都沒有,因為都必須產生行為上的改變,才有實際的效果。
甚至如果用其他類的「實作書」來類比:讀過食譜就算沒做菜,至少會知道自己吃進口裡的滋味是怎麼做出來的,有機會「說得一口好菜」。讀了繪畫技巧的書雖然沒自己作畫,但在欣賞畫作時不免會增加了理解。但是讀完一本以教自己養成好習慣/改善溝通技巧/做好時間管理/好好理財的書,但是沒有具體實踐的話,那麼跟沒讀過是一樣的。
也好奇這種以「Self-help」「Self-improvement」為主題的書的閱讀源流,原來這類的書開始蔚為風潮是在20世紀的初期開始的,像是拿破崙希爾的《思考致富》以及戴爾卡內基《如何贏得友誼與影響他人》就是其中代表。且也因而發展出一個產業,據估計,以「Self-help」「Self-improvement」為主題的書籍、課程、研討會、工作坊、有聲書…加起來的產值超過百億美元。但是,這些產值的背後,真的代表閱聽過這些內容、上完課的人,都實質產生效果了嗎?也許答案並不是在於哪些方法真正有效,而是讀完之後,自己的作為。
昨天在分享《史丹佛人際動力學》的內容時,一位朋友留言問我這本書會不會太理論性?我讀到大約2/3左右,目前的感覺是,這本以在史丹佛大學連開了50年的一門課為基礎的書,的確點出了在人際關係中經常發生的情境,以及能夠如何察知目前遭遇到的問題,並且可以嘗試用什麼方式改善。但同樣的,是否能夠發揮作用,也取決於讀者讀完之後的行為。
《史丹佛人際動力學》書中引用了麻省理工學院教授理查貝克哈德提出的一個公式,說明人在什麼情況下最有可能做出改變:
R < D X V X F
R 代表抗拒改變 resistance to change
D 指的是不滿足 dissatisfaction,自己目前行為所產生的現況
V 則是願景 Vision,新行為帶來的好處
F 則是「第一步」 first step,相信自己可以學會並實踐某些事
為了讓改變發生,其他三項變因的程度必須大於抗拒。
閱讀「Self-help」類的好書,我覺得在V 也許可以帶來一部分效果,以及幫助F 有好的基礎可以展開,但是實際上,D, V, F 都還是有賴於自己是否有所行動。
