🇫🇷 Its size 鐵塔身高
The Eiffel Tower was 312 meters high when it was built in 1889, and was long considered the highest tower in the world. Although this has not been the case for a long time, the 324 meter tower as it measures today, including the antenna, still dominates the landscape of the French capital. But its height is not immutable; it changes with the temperature. With the summer heat, its metallic structure expands and can gain up to 20 centimeters in height. Conversely, it can lose up to 10 centimeters in winter.
艾菲爾鐵塔於1889年完工,高度312公尺,曾經長期名列世界第一高塔。雖然早已不是如此,但這座含天線在內高達324公尺的鐵塔,仍然稱霸法國首都。不過,鐵塔的高度並非固定的,它其實會隨著溫度而伸縮。炎夏時,它的金屬鋼架會膨脹,讓鐵塔長高20公分,而在冬天時會變矮10公分左右。
🎨 Its paint 鐵塔顏色
The tower has been repainted nineteen times since its construction, once every seven years on average and always by hand, according to the methods used in Gustave Eiffel's time. The tower has been painted in red and ochre tones, and since 1968 it has been dressed in a light brown close to bronze, slightly shaded from bottom to top for a better visual integration into the Parisian sky. The paint alone weighs about 60 tons. The latest news? The Iron Lady will be painted gold for the 2024 Olympic Games.
鐵塔完工後,曾經歷19次重漆,也就是平均每7年以手工重漆一次,用的還是鐵塔設計者古斯塔夫‧艾菲爾當年的工法。鐵塔原本是漆成紅色和土黃色,自1968年起,為了能更融入巴黎天際的風景,改成全體漆上接近古銅色的淡棕色,所需的油漆量就重達60噸。下次何時上漆呢?艾菲爾鐵塔將在2024年漆成金色,迎接奧運會。
🏢 Its elevators 鐵塔電梯
Installed and opened to the public shortly after its inauguration, the first five hydraulic elevators of the Eiffel Tower represented a major technical feat for the time. Still in operation, those on the east and west pillars, neither real elevators, nor funiculars, nor cable cars, but somewhere in between, are giving the maintenance teams in charge of their renovation a rather hard time, as they do not meet any of today's machinery criteria. Each year, the cumulative distance covered by the tower's elevators is 103,000 kilometers, or two and a half times around the world.
艾菲爾鐵塔內設五座當時最先進的液壓電梯,在鐵塔落成之後隨即向民眾開放,而這五座電梯也代表了當時的科技技術。這些電梯至今都還在被使用,不過東邊與西邊柱子的電梯,既不算一般的電梯,也不算纜車或吊車,而比較像是介於以上這些之間的產物。由於這些電梯與現代機械不太相同,維修團隊在翻修時也算是經歷了萬難。這些電梯每年上下鐵塔運行的距離是103,000公里,可繞行地球二圈半。
