很多長期信仰天主教和基督教的西方國家，在聖誕節有送禮物的習俗。普遍的送禮日是聖誕節前一日的平安夜，人們會到教會參加午夜彌撒，而相傳聖誕老公公會在晚上小孩入睡時偷偷準備好禮物，讓乖寶寶們在聖誕節早晨喜悅地拆禮物🎁
聖誕老人送禮物給小朋友的意象其實源自於一名叫尼古拉斯的主教。這位主教經常幫助窮苦人家，有一次偉了偷偷幫助一名女子，他將金子從窗戶投進去，剛好落在壁爐上的一支長襪中🧦
後來荷蘭傳教士將尼古拉斯的故事傳入美國，變成了慈祥的爺爺 Santa Claus ，負責列名單並送禮物給好孩子們。1930 年，美國可口可樂廣告中出現一位穿著紅色衣服、戴著紅色尖帽、有著白色大鬍子的聖誕老公公，從此這樣的形象深植人心、直到今日🎅🏻
