okay TD and Iverson are both on it and you know what they give you. quality minutes and numbers.
the 2003 roster had very good shooters in Ray Allen, Vince Carter, and Mike Bibby. they USA roster also had tremendous ability to break down the zone defense by dribble penetration by Vince Carter, Tmac, and to a lesser extent RJ and Martin.
you also had the unwavering floor general who at the time back in 03 was the consensus #1 PG in the NBA Jason Kidd.
At the time, ELton Brand and Nick Collison were not all stars, but Elton Brand was already playing at a high level and Collison gives you hustle, boards, and blocks.
now look at the 2004 roster:
Stephon Marbury?
Emeka Okafor? unproven college big man wiht a bad back?
Carlos Boozer?
the current tri captains were very talented in their first year and LB may not have used them enough, but you have to understand that these three players have since grown incredibly in the two years since the 04 debacle.
Marion and Stoudemire are the solid wing players on the Suns tema.. which at the time had not began playing with steve nash yet.. but they are so dynamic that they had trouble adjusting to LB's system.
and no shooters? tsk tsk
disregard what the media and ESPN said, the 04 Olympics WAS a B-list roster.

Allen Iverson kept the ball this time.
A week after passing up a chance at a winning shot against the Utah Jazz, Iverson hit an off-balance runner with 0.2 seconds left to give the Detroit Pistons a 90-88 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night.
The play was for me to run the clock down and try to get to the basket, he said. There wasnt much time for me to create anything else.
Last Friday, Iverson passed the ball to Rodney Stuckey, who missed a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime, and Utah went on to win.
Having already scored a dozen points in the fourth quarter on Friday, Iverson took things in his own hands.
That was a great play by Allen, Pistons coach Michael Curry said. He hadnt had much going for him in the first three quarters, but then he took over the game.
Detroit have taken eight straight against the Thunder, and havent lost to the franchise at home since the former Seattle SuperSonics won 93-72 on Dec. 12, 2003. The Pistons didnt have an easy time Friday, though, as they struggled to beat Oklahoma City (3-27).
Were a young team that is still learning how to finish games, and they are a great team that knows how to do that, Chris Wilcox said. A.I. had a terrific fourth quarter, and we just didnt have an answer for him.
Thats been the story of the Pistons season. They have wins over the Lakers and Cavaliers, but have lost to the hapless Wizards and Timberwolves.
We keep having lapses, Iverson said. This team only has three wins, so they are going to be hungry, but we have beaten two of the best teams in the league and lost to two of the worst.
It almost happened again Friday, even after Iversons off-balance jumper. Jeff Green nearly tipped in a halfcourt alley-oop, but the ball bounced twice off the rim before falling harmlessly away.
It was a good look, and Jeff is one of our better leapers, Oklahoma city coach Scott Brooks said. It just slipped out of his hands. Its unfortunate, because it would have been a great overtime.
Iverson led the Pistons with 22 points, and Tayshaun Prince added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Durant had 26 points and eight rebounds for the Thunder.
The Pistons looked sluggish for most of the first three quarters. Oklahoma City shot 39 percent through three periods, but trailed only 66-63 heading into the fourth.
Detroit took advantage of two turnovers by the Thunder in the first minute of the final period to expand its lead to 70-63.
The Pistons were up 14 midway through the fourth, but an 11-0 run pulled Oklahoma City to 84-81 with 2 minutes left.
Iverson then threw the ball away, and Durants jumper made it a one-point game with 1:33 left. Rodney Stuckey answered with a driving layup, but Iverson fouled Russell Westbrook, and the rookie split the free throws to make it 86-84.
Stuckey then shot an airball, and the Thunder called timeout with 54 seconds left. Durant beat Prince for the tying layup, but Stuckey found Antonio McDyess for an open layup with 27.2 seconds to go.
Joe Smith made it 88-all with a 20-footer—the eighth straight shot made by Oklahoma City. Iverson ran the clock down to 5 seconds before heading for the basket and throwing in a runner while surrounded by defenders.
The best feeling is when you are having a quiet game, and you arent doing much on the offensive end, and then your coach and teammates still trust you with that last shot, he said. Its easy when youve already scored 30 or 40 points.

Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James were the headliners, but Allen Iverson and J.R. Smith stole the show.
Iverson scored a season-high 37 points and Smith added 29 to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-100 on Monday night.
"They didn't steal my spotlight," said Anthony, who had 22 points and nine rebounds. "They did what they were supposed to do. They took advantage of the defense that they threw at us."
Iverson set the tone early with his sharp shooting. He had 18 points at halftime, when the Nuggets took a 58-43 lead. He came out firing in the second half, scoring 11 points in the first six minutes, including two 3-poiners, to push Denver's lead to 78-51.
"I got into a rhythm in the second half," said Iverson, who finished 14-for-20 from the field and added eight assists. "The basket looked like an ocean; I was throwing rocks in. It feels good when you catch a rhythm like that."
James led Cleveland with 27 points, but the Nuggets were able to contain the rest of the Cavaliers.
"Even though LeBron had a great game, his great game came from getting fouled," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "We took away what we wanted to take away, him making other people better."
The Cavaliers struggled offensively. They shot 41.9 percent from the field and were 21-for-38 from the foul line.
"I'm not too disappointed," James said. "We did a lot of things that we wanted to do differently. We didn't execute offensively or defensively. I think we tried to do some things right."
Even though his team was playing its fifth game in seven days, Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown said fatigue was not an excuse.
"Denver got off a [four]-game road trip in a short amount of time," he said. "It wasn't as if they were sitting here for five days waiting on us."
The Nuggets (5-3) were coming off a dramatic win in Indiana on Saturday, when they rallied from 25 down to beat the Pacers.
"We rode that momentum from the last game," Iverson said. "The confidence level was high, coming back from 25 down."
The Nuggets led by as many as 27 in the second half Monday, but Shannon Brown hit two jumpers to start the final period that cut Denver's lead to 88-72. That's when Smith came alive. He scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and was 4-for-5 from behind the 3-point line to push the lead back to 25.
"I just did what my team needed me to do -- make open shots, get my teammates the ball, rebound and play defense," Smith said. "Just go out there and have fun."
The Cavaliers (4-4) trailed 21-18 after the first quarter despite shooting 25 percent. Cleveland benefited from seven Denver turnovers that helped keep the score close.
The Nuggets used a 13-2 run, highlighted by an Iverson alley-oop pass to Smith, to take a 39-24 with 5:52 left in the first half. The Cavaliers (4-4) got within 11, but two 3-pointers by Smith at the end of the second quarter gave the Nuggets a 15-point lead at the break.
Cleveland guard Larry Hughes didn't finish the game. After missing a 3-pointer with 7:42 left in the first half, Hughes felt he had been fouled and had some words for referee Bill Spooner, who quickly gave Hughes two technical fouls and ejected him.
"I got hit four straight times on four jump shots by Melo," he said. "I got smacked good on four straight shots. I asked him to call a foul. I said what needed to be said."
Game notes
The Nuggets are 7-2 against Cleveland since Anthony and James joined the league in 2003. ... The 122 points were the most Cleveland has surrendered since allowing 120 to Philadelphia on Nov. 19, 2005, which was Brown's first year on the bench. ... Cavaliers G/F Sasha Pavlovic did not play. Pavlovic experienced back spasms against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night and left the game in the second quarter. ... Smith's 29 points were a season high.
