Hello from #Beijing! It’s my first time in the capital of China and I am very excited! We have been here for two days and were lucky enough to witness snow ❄️ (yes hello 0 degree celsius, I wasn’t expecting this in April). So far, we have tried a couple of eateries and roast duck shops.

This evening, we went for Peking duck at Liqun Roast Duck Restaurant (#利群烤鸭店). Opened by a Chef who used to work in Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant, this one and only Liqun is located in a small courtyard in Beixiangfeng Hutong. The roast ducks boast crisp skins and taste delicious.

But well, don’t expect service here. Just finish your duck in one hour and vacate. We overheard a customer asking if there is charging point in the restaurant and the waitress replied, “我们这里不让客人玩手机。” (Translation: we don’t allow customers to play with handphone.) 🙄

We are having Asian potluck with a twist at Tino's & Bing's house. Look at the whole table of food! There's homemade bread, bak kwa sandwich with cheese, prawn toast, yam abacus with beef bolognese, steamed radish cake, gula melaka cake, roast duck pasta with plum sauce and 20-hour sous vide kong ban with olive brioche!

Le Jean’s Festive Peking Duck
Ingredients
1 Le Jean’s whole Peking duck, 2.2kg
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon five spice powder
2 oranges, sliced into 1 cm rings
1 pineapple, cut into 2cm rings
1 teaspoon sea salt
For the glaze
100g orange marmalade
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
100ml pineapple juice
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1. Preheat the oven to 160C/150C Fan/Gas 3.
2. Melt the butter and add the five spice powder. Give a good mix.
3. For the glaze mixture, add all ingredients in a bowl and give a good mix.
4. Score the breasts of the duck and transfer into the oven dish. Rub the butter and five spice mixture on the duck on both sides. Season with salt and stuff the cavity with half quantity of orange slices and pineapple rings.
5. Tie the duck legs. Roast in the oven for one hour then take it out and rub with the glaze mixture. Add the remaining orange slices and pineapple rings and put back in the oven and roast for 30 minutes. Then take it out again and brush the final glaze mixture and put back in the oven to roast for the final 30 minutes.
6. Take it out from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
