Been working on documenting Glioblastoma(GBM) for almost a year. I want to write a little bit on doctor Peter Woo, who invited me to photograph this very meaningful project.
Being a neuron surgeon, he always need to work long hours with extreme focus in treating the human brain, and I don’t need to emphasize how tiring one can be after work. Describing patient’s situation to their relatives is another devastating task, considering the average survival time for GBM is two years, not to mention you have to do such on a weekly or even daily basis.
While managing his work already considered to be a difficult task, he still gives his own time to care for his patients. Months ago with the help of his friends he raised fund for one of his patients, Jeanna Wong, to start her TTF treatment. And when we know Jeanna wanted to try paragliding, he accompanied her up the hill, witnessing her first flight.
During the long night, it is these people I met helps keeping my faith. Faith that humanity can always treat this ever changing world, and the people around us, better.

Yesterday was frantic! From induction to contraction to being sent to labour room with 4cm dilation to finally 5cm and that’s when my nightmare starts..
Doc broke the waterbag to induce labor.. Contraction came almost right away after that. I pre-requested for epidural but it didn’t came on time so I have to withstand the torturing pain from 9am all the way till almost 3pm (𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙩 🥴) In the meantime while waiting for the anaesthetic to arrive, I accepted the laughing gas and Pethidine jab. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘦, 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭, 𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦! 🤬 Pethidine helps to calm me a little but because was too strong, I was just drowsy, can’t even fall asleep like how I did during the first time (first contraction before labour).
After many hours of waiting, dilation remains at 5cm and did not improve further, baby’s heartbeat seems slower (in distress), so doc said we can’t wait anymore and she suggested that we should proceed with emergency csec immediately. Signed some consentment form and straight we go into the Operating Theatre. Oh! Btw they called to inform my husband bout my condition too 💯
Did a swab test, result was negative. Given epidural, contraction is more bearable now. 😍 The medical team proceeded with the surgery while keeping me awake throughout the process. It didnt took long before I could hear her voice, it was swift! 𝙎𝙝𝙚’𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡, 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙄 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧 ❤️ 𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙩. Nurse brought her so close to me that I only manage to notice her glittering eyes n long lashes, then brought her away while they stitch me up. I was trembling most of the time during surgery, probably bcs I was fasting since breakfast and the whole thing only ended in the late afternoon.. But I’m so glad everything turns out well and it’s over.. I’m currently recuperating and is still in the hospital for further observation..

Told me not to worry and baby will be back in my arms soon 🥰 Hubby and I visited her earlier at the ward and nurse told us, she throw up on formula milk and told me, if possible, please try to pump to provide breast milk.. So that’s another mission for me to accomplish.. Jiayou mama, it’s a never ending learning journey.. Embrace it because it’s going to be worth it 🌈😘

I was not sure whether i want to share this on social, but i think this one for her to see nanti bila dia dah besar kan?
Last 2 weeks Althea ckp dia kena insect bite, atas peha bawah bum bum dia after playing at the playground kat ngan rumah ni.. ade bintat, but we thot just a normal mosquito bite camtuh.. after few days dia kata sakit.. aik, takkan lama nau kan? Tgk dia membengkak. Dia dah mcm biru sikit. We went to the clinic, doc ckp dia mcm boils, abscess, bisul. But bisul sejenis x timbul, tapi merebak ke sekeliling.. ade memacam ek jenisnya. Dan kawasan sekeliling itu membengkak dan keras. Doc kata sbb Althea kecik, better buat surgery kat hospital, less pain.
Althea was in pain. Nak duduk nak jalan. Kesian bethol.. so with letter dr klinik tu we went to hospital. Thats another long story yang i dont think i can share here with typing. Xcukup. But it will be forever in my memory gituh. So cut story short, after covid test, malam pukul 10.30 mcm tu we got a call for Althea to admit n do her surgery mlm tu jugak. Patutnya kul 11.30mlm but sampai kul 1.30 pagi mcm tu baru masuk ot.
Sbb with the new SOP tu, hospital xbg tukar org utk jaga, so kalau mummy jaga, kena mummy jaga smp discharge. I was not aware until masa admit tu so xpack properly sbb jngat akan balik n tukar shift ngan brian so i get to mandi at home ke apa kan.. but brian dtg n we jumpa kat bawah je.
The surgery went well, minor je pun n immediately Althea dah x rasa sakit kat situ.. tu melegakan sbb tgk dia sakit tu adeh. Tak sangka a small thing led to surgery kan.. surgery one thing, but keadaan tempat surgery tu another thing. Its ok. Syukur alhamdulillah semua selamat. Sbb sakit yg xmelibatkan dalaman, xde demam or sakit yg teruk, kitaorg discharge late afternoon on the next day. But check up to the see doctor the next day.
Yang kelako nye, i was awake until 3am plus masa Althea nye operation tu, pastu nak sahur, tgk xde benda apa nak sahur.. huhu.. apa pun xbawak.. godeh godeh beg tgk ade milo 3in1 Brian letak sebelum pegi tu.. so i sahur milo.. Alahaii Brian ni dia mmg sweet cane tah.. pastu the next day bfast Althea sampai walaupun roti ngan jem pun nmpk sedap. 🤣 #videoAlthea
