“one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence; (but if a man doesn’t know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)” (1 Timothy 3:4-5 WEB)
One of the most fundamental roles of leadership for a man is his identity as the head of his household.
This leadership role will always take precedence over his leadership in church.
Someone who rules his house well shows that he will likely be able to lead the church well—a family is like a mini church.
Being a good leader to your wife and children isn’t an easy job to do well—it requires wisdom and empowerment from the Holy Spirit which comes from time spent in God’s word and prayer.
As a writer who works from home and who is the main caregiver to my 4 year old daughter ever since she was a baby, I am quite experienced in this area of Christian parenting.
Receive God’s love first if you want to love your family in the way that they deserve from you.
I firmly believe that respect should be earned, not demanded.
Think about this: If our Heavenly Father is constantly bringing mankind to repentance in Christ Jesus by showing His goodness, then what right does a mere man have to demand respect from his children when he’s treating them badly?
If you’re not being a good parent, the answer is to go back to receiving God’s word and seeing His love for you.
Good Biblically-based parenting is a fruit of prioritizing your relationship with Jesus. The more often you sit at His feet to receive from Him, the better you’ll be as a parent because the love you received will overflow in your actions!
This year, you’ll need the entrance of God’s word to give you light to see. His word will be a lamp to your feet, showing you the way step by step, for all areas of your life.

Just sharing some practical Christian parenting tips tonight!
1) Praise good behavior enthusiastically and patiently correct them when they make mistakes.
Be very considerate to their feelings because the small things (in our perspective) mean a lot to them.
Don’t be unnecessarily harsh which risks crushing their spirit (a healthy esteem and outlook on life).
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” (EPHESIANS 6:4 AMP)
2) When letting your children watch shows online, watch it together with them and quickly switch any inappropriate content away.
Don’t let them see explicit content and be traumatized because of your negligence.
It’s not just about you feeding on God’s word while their minds are being defenselessly assaulted by the terrors of this world.
Just as much as you guard your heart from evil, guard your children’s eyes and ears from evil too.
What you believe reproduces in your life so safeguard your little ones’ hearts.
“Moses said, “We will go with our young and with our old; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast to Yahweh.” He said to them, “Yahweh be with you if I will let you go with your little ones! See, evil is clearly before your faces. Not so! Go now you who are men, and serve Yahweh; for that is what you desire!” They were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.” (Exodus 10:9-11 WEB)
3) For children above 3 years old (no exact age—just be guided by the Holy Spirit) cane once on the backside if they act stubbornly in rebellion and refuse to repent from error.
It should hurt but not injure them—just an unpleasant experience to link rebellion with pain.
You are not supposed to enjoy the process. Use this type of discipline when you are calm and not overcome by anger. This is not a time for you to vent your frustration.
Do it because God’s word says it’s necessary, and trust that their stubbornness will be corrected from young and not have worse repercussions in their adulthood.
“Do not withhold discipline from the child; If you swat him with a reed-like rod [applied with godly wisdom], he will not die. You shall swat him with the reed-like rod And rescue his life from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).” (PROVERBS 23:13-14 AMP)
