【#傳媒訪問MediaInterview】《紐約時報》今天的報導，採用了我在2017年於《現代中國》發表的期刊文章「一個國家、兩種民族主義」為標題，並引述了文章的部分觀點。香港政治，不能用純粹的民主化角度理解，因為它涵蓋了香港共同體在普選、語言、文化等各方面的自治訴求。這是一場自治運動，早在1997年已經開始。
Today the New York Times has published a report, adopting my 2017 journal article in Modern China "One Country Two Nationalisms" as its title and quoting a few arguments. Hong Kong politics cannot be interpreted simply based on democratization perspective, because it encompasses the various autonomist demands of Hongkongers as a stateless nation on universal suffrage, language and culture, etc. This is a movement for autonomy, tracing back to 1997.
／Brian C.H. Fong, a political scientist at the Education University of Hong Kong, has dated the change to 2009, when Beijing began a campaign to cultivate Chinese identity here, as part of its effort to reintegrate the territory.
The campaign, coinciding with erosions of Hong Kong’s autonomy and socioeconomic order, backfired, Mr. Fong has written, triggering “waves of countermobilization” — like the pro-democracy Umbrella Movement protests in 2014 — as Hong Kongers asserted “a peripheral nationalism” that is defiantly Hong Konger.
The result has been “one country, two nationalisms,” Mr. Fong wrote.／
