8/8是台灣的父親節，取「爸爸」之諧音定8月8日為父親節。每個國家的父親節日期都不盡相同。而父親節的起源來自美國。
The first Father’s Day celebration was held in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. It was planned by a local resident named Sonora Smart Dodd, who apparently got the idea for the holiday while attending a Mother’s Day church service. Her own father was a single parent of six children, 10 and she felt it was unfair that dads weren’t honored with their own special day.
美國第一個父親節慶祝活動是在一九一〇年於華盛頓州史波坎市舉行。活動是由當地居民索娜拉斯邁特達德規畫，據說她是在參加母親節教會禮拜時，獲得父親節的靈感。她自己的父親是獨力撫養六個小孩的單親爸爸，因此她覺得沒有專屬節日來向父親們致敬，很不公平。
After coming up with the concept of Father’s Day, Sonora visited local church ministers and asked them to help her organize the event. She originally wanted to 15 celebrate the occasion on June 5, as that was her dad’s birthday. That didn’t give everyone enough time to plan though, so June 19, the third Sunday of the month, was chosen instead.
想出父親節的概念後，索娜拉拜訪了當地教會的牧師，請他們幫她籌畫活動。她原本想在六月五日慶祝，因為那是她父親的生日，但這時間太倉促，不足以讓大家妥善規畫，於是就改挑六月十九日，六月第三個星期天。
Father’s Day quickly grew in popularity, and 20 annual events were soon being held across the country. A number of presidents supported giving official recognition to the occasion, but it wasn’t until 1972 that President Richard Nixon made Father’s Day a permanent national holiday.
父親節迅速廣受歡迎，全國各地很快就紛紛舉辦這每年一次的活動。有多位總統支持由官方正式承認這項活動，但直到一九七二年，才由尼克森總統將父親節定為永久國定節日。
