「荷蘭來的臺灣人」、96歲的神父畢耀遠（Pierrot Antoine Henri Marie），是雲林縣天主教若瑟醫院創辦人之一，今天凌晨4點逝世。
畢耀遠神父1954年從故鄉芬克芬（Vinkeveen）來到臺灣嘉義後，一輩子貢獻於臺灣，最常掛在嘴邊的一句話就是「臺灣是我的故鄉」。他秉持「全犧牲、真愛人、常喜樂」的精神，數十年來成立許多慈善基金會，協助貧困、肢體障礙病患與早產兒，受益者無數。他喜歡帶著相機四處拍照，更留下許多臺灣發展過程珍貴的紀錄，去年春天還舉辦引起迴響的攝影作品個展。
畢神父生前在嘉義市省道台一線旁，監工興建「南台灣最美麗教堂」稱譽的市天主教聖奧德教堂，被嘉義市政府列為「歷史建物」文化資產， 有斜頂式建築及馬賽克宗教藝術創作。
畢耀遠神父先後獲得2011年內政部頒發「傑出永久居留外僑終生奉獻獎」、2015年總統頒贈「紫色大綬景星勳章」、2017年吳尊賢文教基金會「慈善服務類愛心獎」等多個國家與社會團體的獎項。去年畢神父96歲慶生會上，更獲得雲林縣長李進勇頒贈榮譽縣民證書，感謝他募款興建醫院學校，奉獻台灣土地超過一甲。
Father Pierrot Antoine Henri Marie from the Netherlands, one of the founders of the Catholic Joseph Hospital in Yunlin County, passed away at 4 am today. He was 96.
After arriving in Chiayi, Taiwan from his hometown Vinkeveen in 1954, Father Pierrot has dedicated the rest of his life to Taiwan. He called Taiwan his own “hometown.” Based on his motto of “Sacrifice Completely, Love Truly, and Rejoice Evermore,” he has established many charitable foundations for the past decades to help the poor, the physically challenged, and premature infants, and countless people have been benefited. He liked to take pictures with his camera, leaving behind many precious records of Taiwan's development. Last spring, he also held a solo photo exhibition.
Father Pierrot father also helped build the “most beautiful church in southern Taiwan,” the St. Ode Cathedral in Chiayi City next to the provincial highway. With its sloping roof and religious arts in mosaic, it has been listed as a “historical building” as a cultural heritage site by the Chiayi City Government.
Father Pierrot was awarded the "Award of Outstanding Achievements for Permanent Residents" by the Ministry of the Interior in 2011, the "Order of Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon" by the President in 2015, the "T.H. Wu Service and Love Award" by the T.H. Wu Foundation in 2017 and numerous awards by the state and other social groups. Last year, the Mayor of Yunlin County Mr. Lee Jin-Yong awarded the honorary citizenship certificate to Father Pierrot to thank him for raising funds to build a hospital school and donated more than one hectare of land to Taiwan.
